I think you might roll up your sleeves too
we're a friendly bunch, and I wouldn't like to be too formal

Well, gosh, I suppose I will then! *rolls up sleeves* What a delightful afternoon this is. So whereabouts have you been in the garden then?

Do take a look round. I am sure you'd love a cucumber sandwich. Would you like a stroll in the arbour? Don't think me too forward ...

Why thank-you, I am extremely fond of cucumber sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, naturally). *takes one proffered on a china plate*
I should be delighted to accompany you to the arbour, miss. I'm sure there are many charming and delicate blooms to be found there...

*adjusts straw boater to a slightly more rakish angle*
*smiles*
Shall we take a stroll then?

Eh? I beg your pardon, Swiv, but I was under the impression I had just offered my elbow to Miss Trillian's Child. Unless you are merely taking a stroll, of course.

*Tucks arm in Kipper's elbow and saunters off to the arbour*
I hear you're going to Manchester. Do bring back some Spring onions to put a bit of oomph into the salmagundi.

You're quite right. A delightful evening was had by all. The company and conversation were quite charming. Unfortunately I have just given my leftover spring onions to my guinea-pigs. And unfortunately they don't apprear to like them much. Oh, well.

Guinea pigs - how charming? Pedigree, of course?

I prefer the natural individualism of those who have been left to breed as Mother Nature intended. Oh yes, and they are now happily tucking in to a fresh cucumber.
