Jimster won't need to change his article on Red Dwarf any time soon, the movie has been in pre-production (afraid not post) for about 5 years now and, like the Hitchhiker's film, seems as if it will never be made, maybe in twenty years. But thats a whole new matter.

Thanks for the good news about the airing of the show!
By the way, I'm not sure that I saw mention of 'Bug Music', an obvious reference to the Beatles, Crickets, etc. of the '60s.
I believe the only song we heard was 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah', sung repeatedly and rather monotone. Hanna-Barbera must not have been fans, eh?

Well, if you're gonna mention 'Bug Music', you might want to add a reference to the Don Byron album by the same name. Byron is an eclectic New York jazz clarinet player, and his 1996 album 'Bug Music' owes its name to the Flintstones ep. The liner notes explain why (though he's not 100% correct as to the exact nature of 'Bug Music'...) If you're interested, I'll provide more details in a later post. Just say the word.
Dutch darts player Raymond van Barneveld is nicknamed Barney, after Mr. Rubble.
And there's a soul singer called Betty Barney (don't know if it's a pseudonym, but it's suspiciously Flintstonesque), who also had a small role in the 1973 Blaxploitation flic 'Ganja And Hess'.

Erm, Galaxy Babe, 'Bug Music' isn't, as far as I know, Don Byron's "favorite" Flintstones episode. Its value to him was, and I quote the CD liner notes:
"Bug Music has lived on for me as a fable of the public's subjectivity."
because
"The Beatles' music, though now thought of as mainstream and accessible, was portrayed (in the guise of Bug Music) as horrible."
So perhaps you should rephrase that particular bit.

Whoops, just read your rephrasing and I'm afraid I'll have to add one more thing. The two quotes I gave aren't continuous; in fact the second quote comes (a few lines) *before* the first one (hence "..." because "..."). It just was the simplest way to summarize Byron's thoughts about the ep. As you've phrased it now, it looks as if it is one quote. Unitalicizing '[because]' and adding a few appropriate "s should remedy it. My turn to say for causing you so much extra work with what is no more than an interesting footnote to the series.

No problem - I want to get this perfect!
The Beatles' music, though now thought of as mainstream and accessible, was portrayed (in the guise of 'Bug Music') as horrible [therefore] 'Bug Music' has lived on for me as a fable of the public's subjectivity.
Is that better?

Yes, the Flintstones deserve perfection!
It's much better, but how about removing 'therefore' altogether? Just add a fullstop after horrible and replace [therefore] with [...], which is the usual manner of indicating you've left out something in a quote.
So, it would become:
The Beatles' music, though now thought of as mainstream and accessible, was portrayed (in the guise of 'Bug Music') as horrible. [...] 'Bug Music' has lived on for me as a fable of the public's subjectivity.
That way you don't add *anything* to the quotes, leave their structure (two separate sentences) intact, and their logical coherence remains clear, too. What do you think?

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Oct 10, 2005
Hi Galaxy Babe. This is coming along nicely. I think it needs just one more thing. It should say in the introduction that despite being set in the stone age, the Flintstones live a modern American 1950's lifestyle, doing all the things that modern Americans would find familiar, and that this is the main joke of the show. This could be put into the middle of the third paragraph.
You've used past tense in describing all the characters, but there's one sentence in present tense which should be changed to past:
Barney likes ten-pin bowling and loves jazz.

not another name-changer!
I can't cope with this
At least put (formerly Gnomon) in your name until we get used to it!
