There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Nice entry GB, but can we decide upon either past or present tense throughout?

smiley - applause Good work, GB! I believe 'The Flintstones' was the longest-running cartoon series ever for many years before finally being overtaken by 'The Simpsons'. I remember it well from my early years!

However, I don't remember Pebbles and Bamm Bamm growing up. Did that happen in the made-for-TV movies?

I did wonder about putting *too much* info in...do I need to say which was later in the movies? Or maybe I should call the entry "The Flintstones - the TV series and after"? I have the videotape of Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm's weddingsmiley - cupidFred's wearing a top-hat and dinner jacket!smiley - biggrin

Thanks for the compliment Ormy.smiley - smooch

I think you need to have separate sections for what happened in the cartoons and what happened in the movies. I've never seen the movies - I had no idea that there were 9 made for tv! So thought it was weird that you said the kids grew up and married each other - I've only even seen them in nappies!

I think it's better to concentrate on what happened in the tv series in the character info, then perhaps add some info from the movies at the end?

What do other people think? Certainly the title needs a tweak if the movie stuff stays in. Perhaps "The Flintstones - Cartoon, TV and Hollywood Movie Stars" or something like that? "The Flintstones - Cartoon and Live Action Movie Stars"? smiley - erm I assume the tv movies were cartoons as well?

'The Flintstones - Stone Age Film & TV Stars' would cover it, I think. An animated film is still a film.

I've put the made-for-TV movies info in a bullet point after the Betty, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm characters. There isn't really enough info to put it in separate sections.

I've found a WAV file of Homer singing his own version of the Flintstones theme tune.
http://www.clayloomis.com/simsong.html (Homer: Simstones) although I'm sure I shouldn't add it to the entry.smiley - yikes

'The Flintstones - the TV Series' is fine. smiley - smiley

You just know I'm going to work on this with ya, don't ya? smiley - winkeye It comes in handy, having just researched the series for a book I've just completed co-writing with Paully about the history of telly.

smiley - tea The first thing I'd recommend is work out a sense of chronology. Don't mention the films and TV movies until you have to as it gets cluttered up. Focus on the main TV series and do eevrything you need to do there. Then in a separate section you can mention that the Flintstones had a life beyond that original series in spin-off shows, TV Movies (in reality just extended episodes) and even two films.

smiley - tea You reference The Honeymooners but don't explain why.

smiley - tea One footnote claims that most TV sets were 'monotone'. I suspect you mean 'monochrome' there. smiley - smiley

smiley - tea You reference the theme song, but it's *SO* much more complicated than that, as the most famous theme tune in animation history wasn't even the theme used on the first few seasons of the show. You can get loads of info about it here:

http://www.topthat.net/webrock/

Best online resourece for Bedrock fans. Take a look in the FAQ section for loads of info, including the story behind the changing themes. It's a real jaw-dropper.

smiley - tea The original Flintstones series ran for 166 episodes - as you note, the longest-running animated series on American TV. When The Simpsons topped it, the usual introductory montage on its 167th episode ended with the Simpsons runningt owards their couch only to find the Flintstones sitting there (the episode, 'The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show', was an examination into the animation industry in which Homer becomes a voice artist on the Itchy and Scratchy Show).

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences

I can't believe I'm bothering to say this about a sodding cartoon character, but:

Isn't it a bit of an assumption to say that the Rubbles 'couldn't' have children of their own? Maybe they just only wanted one, so didn't both after Bamm-Bamm turned up. So instead of

"It isn't known why Barney and Betty couldn't have children of their own, but they adopted Bamm-Bamm, who had been abandoned on their doorstep as a baby."

Why not just:

"Barney and Betty adopted a baby they called 'Bamm-Bamm', who had been abandoned on their doorstep".

Still got concerns about the section on the Theme tune - honest, have a look at the link I posted earlier as the FAQ section contains a superb revelation about the theme.

Other than that, this is much improved smiley - smiley
