Wumbeevil,
>You don't need to be foreign, try Gaelic or Welsh, both allowed by the BBC but not H2G2<
This is the perfect example. If a government institution in Cuba or China had banned the languages of minority groups WITHIN ITS OWN COUNTRY, we would rightfully call it censorship.

Andy,
In their defense, I think that some of the old forums may be "hidden pending moderation" just because the mods have not yet reviewed all the old stuff. It might not have been pulled due to anything specifically offensive. (If it had, someone should have received an email spelling out what was wrong with it.) For example, a lot of people have their old journal entries hidden, and they won't be brought up again until the moderators are able to review them. Unfortunately, journal entries cannot be simply updated like our old guide entries can, which brings them to the top of the list of stuff to be reviewed.
If you start a new thread or page on this topic, they'll probably allow it.
On the other hand, I understand your frustration. Wonder how many old h2g2 researchers showed up at the new site, found all their old messages missing or hidden with no explanation, and decided right then to abandon ship? We'll never know.
And I understand why Peta is frustrated, because she's just doing her job. I think we need to ask the Italics for a name to whom we should eventually address our petition, since it doesn't sound like it is within the scope of the h2g2 staff to make these decisions.

DrGoof,
This is hilarious! They keep deleting the URL out of your message text, but it stays there in your nickname! I was wondering if they had figured this out or not.
I could add this trick to the Workaround Guide, but it might get people kicked out if they keep putting URLs in their name.

Psst! Don't call attention to it! I'm trying not to mention some obvious oversites, because I'm afraid that'll cause them to look.

Linda Lovelace. Star of a movie about a woman who held her mouth open often, much as the YIKES button does on h2g2 under the BBSiege.

My name is Melinda the Basketcase. My number is Researcher 170746. Please let me join your army. I love you and will be doing dishes shortly.

(Melinda, perhaps you should have mentioned being my wife before writing, "I love you and will be doing the dishes." These other people are going to get funny ideas that I am a PLAYA or some kind of charismatic cult leader who requires personal servitude from his subjects, a la David Koresh.)
[Here's a thought -- will BBC remove posts that use SLANG they don't know, like ebonics? Not that I know any slang more modern than what was popularized on Arsenio, but it just makes me wonder. DON'T PLAYA-HATE ME BECAUSE I'M BEAUTIFUL, BBC!]

I've been working on this Led Zeppelin entry for the longest time. Some scouts and researchers ask me to find out if Led Zeppelin played LiveAid. I find this amazing site with a list of all the bands that performed and I copy the URL into my reply in the conversation. I check back to see if I'd had any replies to my reply, only to find that, "The URL has been blocked by the Moderator."
Quite frustrating if you ask me.

By the way, who ever thought of the name the Zaphodistas is a genius.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny, too. I think we can safely say we all love our fearless leader, but I won't do your dishes (sorry, I draw the line with dishes)...

Yossarian,
For the Zepplin link that was deleted, just go back to the forum and tell them you'll post it on your main "My Space" page, then edit your "My Space" page to include the URL they're looking for. It's a pain to have to do all that, but it should work...as long as the mod*rat*rs don't judge the page that you're linking to "offensive."
>By the way, who ever thought of the name the Zaphodistas is a genius.<
When I first started writing it and looking around to see if anyone had already started an anti-BBC-restrictions group, I thought "Zaphodistas" sounded too silly and tried to think of something else.
I really like the real Zapatistas, but I wonder if we're neglecting ZAPHOD in all this stuff. If we ever one day are allowed to post external graphics into h2g2 again, I'd like to make a graphic using the classic Che Guevara in beret picture, only with a mirror-image of the same head and shoulders, then join the two images at the shoulder as if they were Zaphod.

Prof. Tonks, I am severely disappointed. Now that you've joined the Zaphodistas, I have no one left on my original list of sympathizers!!! (There were two at one point, but both have signed on.) I was so excited that we would have citizens secretly supplying us food and shelter while we fought the good fight. Ah well. Maybe this just means that the war will be brief.
Key: Complain about this post
