Thanks for the help Bob but it looks like the XP disk I got was NFG and has messed things up royally by over writing something in the registry and then misplacing all my program files. I have transfered over the things I can't lose to my other HD and will try disconnecting and reformating but will still lose about half of the stuff on this drive by the looks of it. Just going to do a fresh install of 98 and see if I can recover some of it with Norton later.
What a pain this is 14 hours of agrivation and if I had not let myself get talked into "upgrading" and it is crashing on me again now by

anyway hecking XP wont let me reformat so I think I am just going to disconnect that drive and do a clean install of 98 then try to save what I can
