Alaaf und Helau!
Ok, where I live (don't laugh) in Waldfeucht and the surrounding areas, people make life sized dummies of, to put it politely, old women (crones, hags, etc) and put them on their balconies or sit them outside the front door. Presumably something to do with Alt Weiberfastnacht. I've never got to the bottom of it, and when I do remember to ask..... too late, we're all under the influence of Karneval.
Sho
PS. In our village the nearest thing we have to a parade is the floats (pulled by tractors) from the surrounding villages racing past at about 70kmh (to the amazement of my children) flinging sweets at us, on their way to the nearest town.
PPS. We have adapted our family Shrove Tuesday tradition to reflect our new Heimat, and make Karneval pancakes with funny faces for the neighbours on the day before Ash Wednesday. They, some nerve this, accuse us of being wierd!!!!!!

Nevertheless: Oche Alaaf! all around.

Carnival means breaking the rules (not *all* of them, of course) but...
it's got its own, even more serious rules
looks good!

I don't mind carnival being a little adventurous. But it's not something that must be made fit convenience.
I bet you they'll have the Shrove Monday procession on a Sunday or even Saturday. Fools!

*Were* held. They sort of faded away. Chaos rules here anyway. But as I might be moving to London, maybe I should go and enjoy it anyway?

Oh Helau and Alaaf! Sheesh... is it that time again already?
Are we going to make a concerted effort to get this on the front page for Karneval this time? The Remembrance Day entry got bumped forward, I don't think they'll do it again, so now's the time to start campaigning...

Sorry I left you pending for so long
I've asked MM for the favour of having it up *on time* this year, and I'm determined to be pestering the Italics during the London Meet, yes I am!
