Today I have been...
ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms Started conversation Jan 3, 2006
Hi fellow losers. I've decided to take a leaf out of a notorious book and start posting 'today I have been' posts.
However, and this is the trick, it only applies to what you've eaten and/or exercised.
I found that writing things down made me think about it all more, like what was I eating, what was I spending, when was I exercising.
Ideally, I'll be posting once a day or the day after, and sadly list the naughty and nice things I've been eating or doing that day. I figure that if writing things down works, then writing things down in a place where I know others will read it might work too and even better.
So. Today I have had 1 Cadburys Raisin Brunch bar, a cheese roll with ham, cheese and tomato puree, a handful of grapes, two 0.5 litres of water and 0.4 litres of pure orange juice.
You get the idea and hopefully someone else will find this helpful without posting endlessly. (baiting the trolls, I am. But maybe they're all skinny trolls and won't come here)
cheers ismarah

We won't talk about what I ate today, especially since just about the time I pulled up that post, I was eating an Atkins almond chocolate fudge bar. Not that that's a terrible thing for me to be eating, since there's no sugar in them (artificially sweetened), and they have loads of fiber and protein in them, but I'd just finished eating lunch, and didn't really need anything else right then.
So anyhow what I *will* talk about is how much I exercised today...
I did 25 minutes on the eliptical machine, and then swam for 47 minutes.
I'd have swam longer, but I needed to get showered, dressed and home to make dinner for the family.

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Jan 4, 2006
For breakfast today I had a spinache omelette made from eggs, cottage cheese flavoured with feta and olives, spinache, salt, pepper and garlic. I sprinkled some flax seeds on top, added a handful of grated ripe cheese and folded the omelette so that the cheese melted...
For lunch I intend to have fried salmon, chick peas, kidney beans and warm vegetables; carrots, bell peppers, onion, olives and other stuff. It's one of those frozen ready mixes you can buy in a supermarket - these have been fried and frozen, so I just need to heat them in the microvawe at work.
Forgot to buy fruit, but I've got some mixed salad left over from yesterday, so will use that as an afternoon snack.
Haven't decided on dinner yet.
Will try to drink 1 litre of water while at work.

Yesterday I had:
1 x Cadburys Raisin Brunch bar
1 x cheese roll with ham, cheese and tomato puree
1 x glass orange juice
1 x large glass banana/orange smoothie
1 1/2 x baked potatoes, with baked beans (1/2 small tin), 1/2 x egg and some cheese and some butter
2 small handfuls of grapes
2 l water
Pretty good for the first day really, pity about the no exercise.
I ended up falling asleep for an hour after dinner and that kind of scuppered it. Planning to remedy this tonight after work.

Total calories yesterday about 1100 - actually less than I thought.
Might up that a little...

Actually Kelli, having read that, I really think you should.
One of the things I read (unfortunately, at the moment, I can't remember where) was that you do have to eat a certain amount of fat as otherwise your body goes into starvation mode. That's why I'm doing the whole 'one junk day a week'. Last time I did this I lost a stone in 2-3 months without doing anything else. No exercise, nothing. Plus, if you're planning on having kids and stuff, then the minimum calorie count should be around 15-2000 for a woman. Anyhoo, food for thought.
Today I've had
1 x Cadburys Raisin Brunch Bar
1 x handful grapes
1 x brown roll with pate
1 x 30g muesli
1 portion spag bol, made with quorn, which has very few calories
some cheese, two slices of french bread
1 clementine
1 x small glass semi skim milk
1.5l water
Exercise on for later - woohoo. Note the sarcasm.

Most of the calories I am getting are from 'good' fats, in the olive oil and seeds also in the whole milk so am not going for an enitrely 'no fat' approach. Yesterday's calorie total was 1400, this is slightly higher than I wanted - I lose weight if I stick to around 1300. Not trying for kids yet so the main aim is to lose the flabby bits in advance of baby-making Have run out of salad leaves now and forgot to prepare something for lunch so have just got a large carrot and some celery sticks for lunch today- this means I skip the olive oil so will put something extra in my dinner tonight, or possibly have a snack when I get home...
Breakfast:
3 dessert spoons of porridge with whole milk.
Lunch:
handful of rocket, watercress and spinach leaves dressed with 2 tablespoons olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice.
Snacks throughout the day:
8 cherry tomatoes
2 tablesppons sunflower seeds
15 oilves
Dinner:
1x large bowl of soup (as yesterday)
1 muller light yoghurt with the tub topped up with a all-bran flakes
treat:
1 small square of dark chocolate
1 small piece of christmas cake
3 cups hilites
Exercise:
500 calories burnt on the gym equipment (crosstrainer and bike) took around 40 minutes
40 minute walk with beasties

Yesterday I did 15 minutes on the elliptical trainer, 240 situps and 10 push ups. Discovered push ups might not be the best idea. Hey ho.
Today I've had:
1 tuna and salad baguette, with light mayo (home made sarnie)
1 clementine
1 large glass orange juice
1 l water
handful of grapes
1 snack-a-jacks mini bag
Dinner tonight is planned quorn fajitas, with light sour creme, fresh salsa, and loads of veg. Don't know what I'll do for snacks tonight. Homemade popcorn or some clementines, I suppose.
Also, more exercise is planned for tonight.
However, tomorrow is supposedly my first junk day. Goodie!

Yesterday, I did the usual exercise - about 25 minutes on the eliptical machine, and 50 minutes swimming.
Today I did 30 minutes on the eliptical machine (They have individual flat screen TV's on each exercise machine, and I wanted to see the end of the TV show that was on!), then 45 minutes swimming.
I can't remember what I ate yesterday, except for the junk I consumed , so we'll talk about what I ate today instead, since I actually behaved myself, primarily due to the fact that I didn't have time to snack all day.
Breakfast - omelet with cheddar, mushrooms, green onions and red peppers, and a small glass of .
Lunch - leftover "Tuscan chicken" - chicken breast, with zuchinni, onion, spinach, tomatoes, celery, and red peppers, topped with a little mozarella cheese.
Dinner - Chicken Caesar Salad.

Will you come and cook for me Lady Scott
Both of you are doing well on the exercise front We'll be sylph-like (sp?) in no time at all
Calories yesterday were 1200 - lower than I expected given the cheese and cake lapses! But that isn't good becuse it means I didn't eat enough 'real' food. Things are looking better today though Exercise yesterday, 650 calories in the gym on eliptical and treadmill, took about 50 minutes.
Breakfast:
3 dessert spoons of porridge with whole milk
Lunch:
1 large carrot and several celery sticks plus tablesppon oive oil (decided to dress them anyway, actually tasted good as I had some flavoured olive oil on my desk)
Snacks throughout the day:
celery sticks
20 olives
Dinner:
1x large bowl of soup (contents of soup below - this should last for three or four dinners)
small piece of christmas cake
treat:
1 small square of dark chocolate
A lump of stilton (I know I am weak! Was putting it in J's dinner and couldn't resist)

Yesterday was my first junk day, so here goes (brace yourselves)
I had:
1 brown roll with tuna and salad
1 large glass orange juice
2 clementines
1 Cadburys Raisin Brunch Bar
2 l water
2 glasses coke
1 large portion chicken tikka masala (made with cream)
1 portion plain rice
1 large peshwari naan
2 small onion bahjis
1 handful chocolate covered caramels
20 pringles
I was soooo good for most of the day and then it just went a bit pearshaped. Especially as I generally am sensitive to cream and apparantly a diet makes me even more so. Ah well, the curry was worth it.

Kelli, you really don't want me cooking for you - I use *real* butter, cream, etc in my cooking , as well as olive oil. Looking at what little you eat, I have no idea how many calories I must be consuming, but I'm sure it's a lot more.
But that's mainly because what I need to really watch is carbs, especially starchy/sugary carbs, because I feel so rotton on them, and the low fat versions of those things are higher in carbs. I'd rather have lots of veggies and allow myself the occasional bit of fruit. (right now I seem to have a cold , so I had a clementine this evening, in addition to plain yogurt with a bunch of strawberries for lunch, and my breakfast orange juice) Calories don't really enter into the equation.
Since I'm eating so few starches, I almost need to have the real fats to feel satiated, or else I'll be hungry again in an hour.
But then I'm not losing any weight either, in spite of the exercise (which I've done for probably 2 years now). I know I"m not very fast on the eliptical machine, and I'm certainly not going to win any races with my swimming either, so I may really only be getting about half the workout it sounds like I'm getting. I'd try harder to speed up and make it a harder workout, but what I do now seems to be about all this creaky old body can manage for the time being.

Yesterday I had a plate of tomato and herb tortelloni, some garlic bread, a pure fruit pineapple lolly from Waitrose, one glass of coke (I was truly gagging for that one, I am so weak) and about 2 litres of water.
Today I have had an omelette, 1 glass orange juice and 1 litre of water. So far at least. Oh, and when DT wasn't looking, I snuck in some chocolate covered liquorice bits, like 10 of those.
Well, the wah is really for myself, useless bint that I am when I'm on a diet.

I'm dithering - some days I'm good, and some days less so... at least I'm not gaining weight, which is good.
I thought I might accidentally have unsubscribed to this thread but then, when I went searching, I found out it has slipped down my list of conversations due to lack of recent activity.
So - let's dust this thread off!

Well I stopped posting rather than be accused of spamming!
I had a 'bad' couple of days on saturday and yesterday, starting with lots of on saturday night. Then a cheese ham and onion omlette for breakfast (brought to me in bed) on sunday, followed by: scallops and salad starter followed by swordfish steak and vegetable ratatouille with one roast potato and one roast carrot, then cheesecake for pudding at lunchtime. We shared a fresh pasta thing for supper.
Also ate one swiss chocolate truffle and had a real choc and rum toddy before bed.
But it was my birthday
