This is a great article!!! It has everything... it's going to take me awhile to REALLY read all of it, love...
I love the "I'll love you at least til the middle of next week" line!!!
I must confess that the reference to "Pride and Prejudice" makes me cringe-- I hated that book, but I recieved an A+ on the paper I wrote(shows what good research can do)!!!

Aw thank you
I think you either love or hate Jane Austen. I love her books, and have read them all a zillion times. As far as I can remember though, I don't think I would have got A+ on a paper about it. I was too far down the maths/science bend about then, but I love reading. Atm, am reading George Eliot's 'Middlemarch', which I think isn't so far different, since it's in the same time-period. There's a major difference in writing styles though.

YAY for George Eliot!!!
I have been reading W.H. Auden poetry... but... it reminds me of when I ALMOST read all of "Leaves of Grass"!!! It begins SOOOO fascinating and innovative, and then... it just gets redundant!!!
So perhaps I will start reading another book...

Actually, it's taken me a while to get through 'Middlemarch' probably because of the way it's written. It's not light reading. But still, I'm entranced with the fact that I have very little idea where the plot will end up! She's a great writer.

One way to make any piece of poesy reek of artifice and pretension is liberal usage of the dreaded apostrophe. Nothing says bad poetry more than using words like "'gainst" and my personal favourite, "o'er".
And, because someone mentioned Auden, I'll have to quote Constant Lambert, a friend of Anthony Powell (he who wrote A Dance to the Music of Time), who said that "reading Auden's poems was like reading a lot of back numbers of the New Statesman". Classic.

Hiya Nex!!! Allow a proud Musemother to use this moment for a shameless plug, since lovers of LIterature have gathered here!!!
Do visit Clio's Library of History when the chance arrives perchance!!!

The New Musehome Roster is almost done, too...
HEY!!! I think the H2G2 Literary Society(I think that's the proper name) is dead, as I contacted them months ago about the opening of Clio's... alas!!! NO word... funny, coming from a society all about words...

OOh, that's a good idea, Nexus! I should put that on my list of 'things to do to the poetry page when it gets that big overhaul I've been planning but have been too busy/lazy to do'.
I wonder if I can get notepaper with that header?

I suppose, but in the perfect virtual world, I wouldn't have to worry about that.
I remember my brother had notepaper that said 'Dumb things I gotta do' But he didn't get that made specially.

That would just have been making things TOO easy for him. You should never make things too easy for your brothers

Forgive me, I missed the important bit that 'be myself' was supposed to be directed at him. As in him be himself, not me be myself. In which case, that would be awfully appropriate, if only because 'twould bug him
