Sometimes what's powerful is the use of both or a combination thereof... Hmm.

Find something to distract and calm you. Like in films people talk about going to their "happy place".

I could never understand that about meditation and yoga! How can they help you against panicking! I mean, if I am panicking I wouldn’t feel like (or have the time or the opportunity) to sit cross legged on the floor going ooommmm and trying to enter my happy place! smiley - huh

So I still think the best way to deal with panic is Zaphod Beeblebrox's - put the dark glasses (Peril Sensitive Sunglasses) on so that you can't see what's going on!
I wish I could by a pair!
smiley - run

still not understood smiley - headhurts

meditation is like training. it's not meant to be used when you are panicking. it has to be practiced beforehand.

smiley - zen

Yeh and for one you don't sit in a room going ooommm, it's about beeing silent and at one with your mind. And for two all it takes it ten minutes a day, I find it's more sucessful if you practace before you go to bed.

One part of it is when you get a hang on being able to control some of the physical stress responses... I guess. *shrug*
Like if you consciously will your breathing rate to slow down instead of letting yourself hyperventilate during an anxiety attack? I guess.

smiley - erm Just throwing a guess out there.
:-?

Sounds good. Having ways to relax and cope with stress stops you going mad.

Well I rekon that was a pretty gooooood guess!

Hello

I've heard it's all about breathing exercises and mind over matter.

Yeh, that's also correct too!

Still sounds impossible to me! smiley - erm OK, say I don't make ooommm noises and I just sit quietly by myself thinking only about my breeding... If I do that today and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and... How is that going to help me next time when my boss starts annoying me? I can't possible sit in her office, thinking nice thoughts and trying to calm my breeding down, when she actually expects a response and feedback and I have to think about those, not about my nice place! smiley - huh

smiley - sigh That meditation thing is very hard to fathom! smiley - sigh
It all sounds very good on theory though smiley - zen

Hello

your maths teacher must be one of those teachers then......

My A-level maths teacher was a right terible teacher. One of those ones who seemed to have more time to help those who *didn't* need it. If you were one of her favourites you were fine, but if not you were stuffed.

Well, yeh she is like that, only she doesn't realy teach anything 'coz the numb sculls in my class won't, excuse me one moment, SHUT UP!!!!!!

Hello

Yeah. There was one girl in my class, captain of the hockey team and part of the "in crowd" in my year (every year group in every school has one). She could say *anything* back to the teachers. The rest of us wouldn't dare think it. Not that she was abusive or anything, but it was little comments and stuff that she seemed to get away with. Teacher's pet.
