So how come? Was it something you've learnt as a child or did something happen that made you associate them with bad luck? Like did you keep tripping over umbrellas that had been put up indoors to dry?

Are they superstitious too? If they're superstitious about so,mething, you may have learnt it from them rather than learning yourself.

My experience of good/bad luck is that it evens itself out over a period of time. We just don't notice the good stuff as much.
The moral of this story is avoid really lucky people - they're either stealing yours or a piano will drop on their head one day

Not that I'd trying to offend. I'm just trying to understand where it comes from.
We all learn stuff like that from our parents. Know for me, mine always would put an umbrella up in the garage to dry, so I've not prfoblem with that. But I know some people wouldn't like that.

Yeh I get what you mean! I understand different cultures on good luck and bad luck. Although I disagree on some things but that's just....me...I guess.

"You can't say that God told you not to [open an umbrella indoors] coz it'd be sinful or whatever."
There is a difference between religious belief and superstition, but it can be difficult to draw any exact lines. As a rule of thumb, a religion is a (semi-)coherent model of the world, while a superstition is a single isolated belief that a certain action or event can cause good or bad luck.
Of course, some superstitions are related. Breaking a mirror is bad luck; mirrors should be covered when someone dies; vampires have no reflection. (The last isn't a superstition, of course, it's a folk belief.) All of these are related to the idea that the soul is seen in the reflection. (Vampires, of course, have no souls.)
Spilling salt is bad luck, but this can be averted by picking up a pinck of the spilled salt and throwing it over your left shoulder, because the Devil's eye is just behind your left shoulder. Again, this is a superstition, but it's related to a wider body of beliefs about God and the Devil. It doesn't stand in absolute isolation, but it's near enough to the edge to be seen as a superstition, rather than as a religious belief.
I'm not superstitious.
TRiG.
