Entry: Santa Cruz, CA, USA - A4281923
Author: baldeagle072 - U1662435
This is my first guide entry. I've lived in SC for several years and figured it was knowledge that needed to be in the Guide.

Great entry, good work! I would suggest a couple of things:
Consider making the 'Weather', 'Restaurants' and 'Things To Do' lines into full s as opposed to s. As the waterfront and beach area is such a big part of the piece, maybe you could introduce that with a header and a couplke of introductory sentences too? Up to you
You might want to rephrase the lines 'If everybody wasn't going back to school or working, I'm sure that everybody would want to go to Santa Cruz in the fall because that is when it have the nicest weather' and 'UCSC - Our University is on a hill' - for the EG you can't put in any first person references.
Finally, if you have access to a British english spellchecker, it would be handy to run it through. As the Guide is UK based, it uses British spelling - for example, 'harbour' not harbor - and grammar, so instead of 'fall' say 'autumn'. There aren't many If you want me to, I'll check through the whole thing and post you all the little bits you'll need to change, just let me know if you do!
This is potentially a great entry, so don't be put off by the length of this post! It's all little things that need ironing out rather than extensive rewrites. Hope this helps and if you want me to scan it for Brit spelling/grammar just post back here.

Hello, fellow Californian!
You might want to mention that UCSC stands for University of California-Santa Cruz, and that it's one of the many branches of the University of California (others include Berkeley, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Davis, Irvine and Riverside). Not everyone is going to know what UCSC stands for.

I don't have access to a british spell checker. If you could go through and check things Skankyrichogoshogoshogosh I would be much obliged. Thanx a bunch.

Oh, but it's very easy! Just copy & paste your entry into Word (or whatever word processor you use), change the language settings to English (UK), and run spell check!
But I'm sure Skankyrich would be happy to check things for you.

Just Skankyrich will do
Here are the ones I can find, in order:
everybody would want to go to Santa Cruz in the fall - autumn again!
in the 70's - House style says it should be 1970s (no apostrophe)
There was three feet (about a meter) - metre
Anyways, it does rain - Anyway
down the hill, but but do that part - repeated 'but'
Zelda's - Another good reaturant - restaurant
You get a lot of food for real cheap. - You can get a lot of food very cheaply
Twin Lakes Beach - This is a good beach for bon fires - bonfires
Sunny Cove - A great beach for boogie boarding during the day and excellent for bon fires at night. - As above!
Anyways, if you so choose to go to the Boardwalk - Anyway
Just watch out for little kids in there; they often like to cheat. - Nothing wrong, it's just a fabulous one-liner! Great stuff.
salt-water taffy - I'm probaly like most ignorant Brits in not knowing the delights of this! If you put, straight after the word 'taffy', a Expain what a salt-water taffy is here. your expaliantion will magically appear for those of us who don't know! A useful tool.
I hope this all helps! Thank you for following my suggestions so quickly (you still have a couple of sets of " instead of ' though!), and I wish you loads of luck wth this great entry
Skankyrich. Or Rich. Or Skankyrichogoshogoshogosh. Take your pick

Excellent entry I've been to Santa Cruz only once, for about half of one day, so I don't know very much, but I remember some of this.
"Santa Cruz is well known for being a town full of weird people."
Ain't that the truth... One of the major impressions I got when I was briefly in the town was that it was a bunch of weirdos. Why is that?
The Boardwalk... I went there the day I got off my plane (in San Jose, so it was a bit of a drive) after an awful, long flight, so my memory may be off on this, but these are pay for each attraction type of rides, not a single admission, right? I know I'm used to single admission, so I'd mention that, but that's just me speaking from my sheltered Ohio life.
Anyway, I'll keep this comment short because you have enough to deal with from Skankyrich and just say good job

Lovely entry!
It actually made me think that Santa Cruz would be a nice place to visit. The lack of chain stores for a start. The Broadwalk sounds really rather good fun. I love old wooden rollar coasters.. hell I love rollar coasters in general.

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days. I've been in a secluded place without internet. Anyway, thank you everybody for all your help. You should be happy to see I've made the changes you asked for except for the thing on explaining why Santa Cruzians are weird. I'm not really sure how to explain this because they've been like that before I was born, and it's just the way it is. (Maybe you should check out page 95 of the Salmon of doubt. If we happen to have different versions of the book, it is a titleless section just before "Interview, American Atheists" and after "Build It and We Will Come")

Looking good.
But I have a couple points, to fit in with house style:
The picture has to go. If your entry is selected as an Editors' Choice, it will have a picture specially made for it. But otherwise, we can't have pictures in our entries.
All your temperatures should be in Celsius primarily, as that's the metric system, which is cool and also what the British use. Though you can put the Fahrenheit in parentheses if you like.

Yeah, someone told me in writing workshop that the picture wouldnt work. They said the editors would take it out. I'll just take it out anyways just to be on the safe side. Thanx.

Yes, if you haven't taken it out by the time the entry's recommended, your Sub-editor will remove the picture. But chances are that your entry is far more likely to get recommended if it follows all the rules (such as not having a picture).

I believe all the changes have been made. Once again, thanx for everybody's input.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

And well done in getting your first entry through into the Edited Guide.
So, what's your second entry going to be about?

Sorry for such a short reply before. I was @ work and they actually wanted me to get work done. Newayz... refering to the question of what next, I'm not completely sure. Maybe I'll do one on Chico, CA because I've spent a year there for school. We'll see...
