Hatifnat's Cactus Study Garden
Hati Posted Nov 20, 2000
I have not enough spare time for pets. Houseplants are easier to understand and they don't need to be let out or walked. (though in summertimes I take my plants outdoors, too)
Recently I bought an old house and we are now renovating it. Actually it's all an "investment of my life". Now I dream about being a millionare to build a glass roof and a greenhouse on the attic. Nice idea but so complicated.
As about the cacti here - so kind of you to offer your help - every hand is needed. Insructions? Do you know which one is the Chrismas Cactus?

To renovate an old house needs time and patience, but it is very rewarding. The idea of a greenhouse on the roof appeals to me!
Er, which cactus is which? well, I think ... is the Christmas cactus this one here - the one that has the flower?

Hati Posted Nov 20, 2000
Sure.
Christmas Cactus looks like the first two ones at http://www.h2g2.com/A463187, if you are patient enough to open the page.

A greenhouse on the roof!!! That's awesome...
Being a pisces, I'd like to live in a lighthouse...
But I also want to have 2-4 kids... that'd be close quarters...

Sorry, I didn't catch it. What do you mean with " that'd be close quarters..."?

Hey, sweethearts,
I have to be offline till next week, would you water the Xmas Cactus for me, please.

Why certainly... and I meant that 2-4 kids, plus 2 parents, would make up to 6 people, without including cats, pianos, guitars, and other instruments, and painting supplies, and that would make for a lot of things that require space without any real space FOR them...
Wouldn't it be just too cool to have a piano up at the top of a lighthouse, if you could!???... You'd have a 360 degree view of the ocean... ::sigh::

I've got 2 kids and lots of other stuff (luckily no pianos around, only clarinet and some other small instruments and a guitar of course), that's the reason we bought an ugly big old house. We have no running water in the house (the water in the well is better for houseplants), the electricity is always ready to switch off or fail (it makes economy easier) and our lavatory is a separate building in the yard (sorry, nothing positive in this).
But we are happy in this mess and hoping it will get better in time (and lot of work).
Seems that it's just my way - to buy a large houseplant and the to be forced to buy a bigger house for that. Now I know that if I'm going to have eg 4 kids, I can just build another floor on my house and everything will be OK again.
Sorry for too long posting. I'm just happy and complacent.

Happy and complacent are too great things to be!!!
Think how blessed you are to have your own place... and each other... there are too many people who can't call any place home, or anyone family...
I hope your holidays go groovily-- are you celebrating Thanksgiving, my dear, or would you not be in the "proper" country for such an excuse to eat turkey, talk turkey, and watch football!??

Hati Posted Nov 22, 2000
No holidays, no turkey, no football. Only workworkwork and no celebratins here in GMT+1 timezone.
About being Happy - I have luckily passed these unhappy phases you described and even worse. It's been a long way and now I have a little rest for being happy and dreaming ("it doesn't shine when you get closer").
Have nice time, I'll be back in Monday.

The cacti are lucky to have someone like Hati to look after them. I'm sure we can manage while she's away.

Yes, my dear - do try to contain your excitement, or the neighbours will start talking! ... and take this watering can around with you as you go - keep the cacti cool!
