Ah yes, it says that tables can only be seen on the website in its place. smiley - erm

I'll leave it there for now and see what others say.

smiley - smiley Think it might come down to Editors saying that everything needs to be available to all users, even those with cranky old Nokia 3310s. Plus it doesn't really make sense if you can't read the table. It goes straight into the first sentence presuming you know what's in the table. But never mind me, I don't know nuffink. smiley - winkeye

I hope you can keep it in - it looks so much like the screen at the beginning of every show smiley - biggrin

And I certainly hope that we aren't going to have to do away with certain things just so that people on their bloody mobiles can see entries which most of us are quite happy to view on our computers, and which are the machines currently best suited to viewing h2g2.

I was working on a marquee system to simulate the flashing cursor at the end of the text, but marquee certainly isn't allowed in approved GuideML. smiley - sadface

It's a shame you can't add a bit of 'snow' too. BUt hey...

hmm, let's ostracise the people who use 'bloody mobiles' to view the Edited Guide straight away then shall we? Not even a month after the Guide has gone mobile? good move. smiley - grr

And people wonder why I'm in a mood.

Frood's right. You can use a sitefilter tag, I believe, to help the PDA version, so that the PDA is just a blockquote and h2g2 is that table.

I don't even know if the subs will allow that table to stay in the entry. Inverted colors and fun things like that are difficult to squeeze in smiley - smiley

South Park is a funny show. I once attempted an entry on it, I believe... I'll try to have a better look at this later, but good for you for taking on the topic smiley - ok

Hmm, according to the page explaining the sitefilter (A1098867), it's not allowed in approved GuideML, and it only works in personal spaces. smiley - erm

Really? smiley - doh
I recall a thread talking about this very subject (tables in EG entries that didn't appear in the pda version)... I'll have to track that thread down and see if anything useful came from it.

Needs doing though. Definitely.
We're told to make sure our entries are readable in pda form (or I think we were) but aren't given the tools to do so.

Personally, I'd change the opening table to a blockquote, not only for the pda version but because I'm not really sure that would survive subbing intact anyway.
But that's just what I would do and I'm not about to boss you around smiley - smiley

I think this will always be the problem with trying to expand h2g2 to new formats. It certainly didn't change the way the Subs did anything, so it's only placed more workload on poor old Jimster.

OK, I've done some tweaking so that it'll be easy to return the text to normal if it's needed. I've also left a note to whoever edits this in a comment.

"Note to sub: I've put in the black table with white writing to make it look the way the disclaimer is on the show. Since this might not be allowed, I've separated out the tags so it'll be easy to delete the table and return the writing to normal should that be needed."

GB, I couldn't agree more with your advise about following the opening warning notice.

As much as I have adhered to it, being a channel changer by heart, I can't help but catch fractions of a second here and there. I've found that more than two seconds of hearing the "kid's" voices is enough to hurt my teeth, so a flip past very fast.

A 15 inch (approx.) stuffed 'Kenny' doll found its way into our home, and it was weeks before someone identified it for us.

Good luck with the piece. Your opening is a public service. smiley - ok

Smij - Formerly Jimster

Love the show, love the entry. As a few people have mentioned you still have a few annoying typos there, GodBen - and the hideous crime of misused apostrophes too! ('it's' means 'it is'. 'its' means 'belonging to it', so make sure you check some of thsoe 'it's's). Also, house style thing, but we use single inverted commas.

I'm afraid the table will have to go; as others have mentioned it won't work on mobiles and PDAs, and might cause problems for sight-impared people. Best to have the text in a blockquote.

Picking aside, I'm really pleased to see Butters in there - my fave character. And I'm relieved you weren't tempted to provide translations for Kenny. I know what he says in the title sequence and the boy will burn in Hell for it.

He already did?

Oh.

Good call!

Just those few niggling little problems and you'll be ready for a Scout to come along and recommend it smiley - smiley
