Nearly There - See?

All right - let's refine this a little:

23+6=2

How might this make half of The Beatles rock?

Presumably Lennon & McCartney ?

Were they the house numbers they lived at?

Hmm - rock is the key...and the relevant keys are those of the rock

Lennon and McCartney is right, by the way, but no, not house numbers

23 of one, 6 of the other, put them together and they make two

No bright sparks so far.

23 is the number of letters in Strawberry Fields Forever - arguably their best song, which sadly didn't make it on to the "1" album, as it only made number 2 in the charts (with Penny Lane on the flip side).

Not sure where 6 would come in, though.

Okay, here's a complete guess that might help someone else to the answer...

McCartney has released 23 albums since the Beatles broke up.
Lennon released 6 albums from when the Beatles broke up until his death (?)

... so, add these together and you get 2 - Lennon & McCartney? Or did they release two albums together after the Beatles broke up?

Trin, did Andy get it right?

Nope.

To restate:

23+6=2

How might this make half of The Beatles rock?

Lennon & McCartney is getting there. But John Lennon and Paul McCartney would be closer still - and there's still the matter of the rock and the keys to consider.

Are the keys something to do with musical keys? Like C D E F sharp, B flat etc.

And you'll have to forgive my ignorance here, but how do you add one pope to another to get a third? This doesn't appear to follow the fundamental axioms of mathematics smiley - smiley.

And where do keys come in to it?

Having said that, the numbers look interesting. I hope you're right.

Feisor has it!

23+6=2

There have been 23 Popes called John, 6 called Paul and 2 called John Paul. This makes 'half the Beatles rock' because all Popes are, as Bishops of Rome, the successors of St Peter, a.k.a. 'the rock' (on which the church is founded, 'petrus' etc.) - the 'key' part of the Pope's title is that he is the 'holder of the keys of St Peter'
