Of course, this question would be easier if I could read my own handwriting. Let's try again, shall we?
Please fill in the gaps in this sequence:

A short (and nasty) clue:
The word 'sequence' above was deliberately misleading. There is no logical sequencial order to the list (although obviously they still make sense individually)

OK, a short (and nasty) question :
Is the set of six complete? Or were these examples from what could have been a longer list?
This is a serious toughie. Sincerely hope it's not geeky computer stuff. Naww, a good honest Scunny lad wouldn't do that. L,R,C...bits of electric circuits? Thought about train stations, knicker-sizes, initials of serial people like PMs...Zip.
Bet the title's got to be a clue. And the hyphens probably mean something...
'Bout the only thing I can think of that does come in sixes is lanes at a dog-track. Oh, and these...
...'cept these don't count, 'cos they're all the same

Cleo Posted Oct 6, 2002
The hyphens make the pairs look like a sporting fixture. Like Leics-Lancs, or Liverpool-Leeds. But there's only 6.
Another thing I've been thinking about is movement. Left, Right, Centre, Back. S and D aren't helping, though.
If it is a group of 6, rather than only 6 of a longer sequence, what are there 6 of? Star Wars films, episodes of something.
Clueless

Yup, it needs more clues methinks.
I had no idea til I read Pinniped mentioning the subject line and thought maybe it was some sort of hardware coding for screw sizes and types of heads, but I've never seen the like. Possibly ship propellors then?

I think the 'screws it up' refers just to the fact the he made a complete balls-up of writing the question. Also, that wasn't the subject when he posted the first verison of the question...

"and we're off" was his initial title. Hence the dog-track.

Pinniped Posted Oct 7, 2002
That's got to be right - as in M1, M2...M6
(The M5 goes to Exeter? Why???)
(A thought for future setters - we might just be setting questions that non-Brits have no chance with?)

Oh Hell, forgot I was temporarily in charge if this thread.
Well done Cleo, that is indeed the correct answer. Take it away...
Apologies to non-Brits (except Americans, of course).

Just to extemporise on my question for Pinniped's benefit:
