Do people actually get paid for this? I had always thought that they were just planned out by the band's director, or maybe sometimes a few of the senior students.

Interesting.
There is show-writing software available? How does that work then?

Well, there's dance choreography software out there, so it makes sense that there would be marching band software as well. Here's an interesting link about band software: http://www.sbomagazine.com/sbomag/may00/technology.html

This is potentially a good entry.
In step 1 you need to explain why you need to know the number of people. In step 5 you could explain how to teach it. Teaching the show can be a very difficult thing to do. And last, you never mentioned music. You should include another step about purchasing or obtaining music. You could probley use more detail in the show writing software too.

Sorry if I haven't been on to edit anything. I was in the middle of a crisis, but now I have access to computers once more. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful suggestions. I suggest to put all or most of them into play. Thanks again!
