I know a bit of programming (though mainly HTML) and I'm a child. I think that programming is just something like anything else that certain people enjoy.
You get most enjoyment out of your programming when you produce something nice but it didn't take 7 hours to do one little bit. If you can produce something interesting in a couple of weeks then you'll be proud of yourself.
I have to admit it is not easy to get into serious programming. I would quite like to get into more advanced stuff like JavaScript or even C++ but working stuff out is much more difficult than HTML for example which took me about a month to figure out.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
