HaPi - Pitch 20 - not far from the shop
Evangeline Posted Oct 26, 2003
Well, there is a cartoon where Bugs is minding his own business when he hears a noise that makes him cringe.
Bugs looks around and sees in the distance, a kilt wearing, bagpiper. Having seen this cartoon several times in the last thirty years, every time my brother fills the bag of his pipes it's about all we can do, not to yell "I'll save ya!!! Back you awful Monster! Pick on someone your own size!.

with a bit of luck I'll be in Scotland end of this week I'll try and keep that scene *out* of my mind
(* few months ago I was in Edinburgh .. got a mobile call, I was not far from a bagpipe player.. guy at the other side asked "what's the noise?? where are you??? are you alright????" ... so I said "ah... that's nothing.. they're skinning a cat" ... I had to explain for several weeks what, where I was and why I made that remark *)

Haggis for breakfast...I guess you can't have every morning.
I didn't buy or wear a skirt this week either.

it's nice actually .. (the haggis I mean ) I first ate it at a friends house .. tasty .. even knowing what it's made off

I'm sure Haggis is nowhere near as scary as my mother's cooking. At least I *know* what is in Haggis...Mom's cooking on the other hand...

Ah, right, I think I get the picture
There's a group of people I don't really trust in the kitchen .
too much pepper results usually in blowing flames.. either as in or the other way.. both options hurt &

It was the phrase "It's not so bad once you scrape off the burned bits..." that did it for me. I also heard "If you don't want what I cooked, make your own dinner" a lot. Best incentive to learn how to cook.

.. and don't foget the "at least it's been hot enough.. germs don't survive high temperatures"..
Also keep in mind
- "did the recipe say -bake- or -cremate-"??
- "the salmonellas wear wellies in his/her kitchen"
Have you read Nanny Ogg's cookbook??

bake or cremate...
One morning someone burned an entire batch(24 loaves) of bread at the store where I work. This bread was so much like charcoal that I was able to take a blackened loaf outside and set it on fire like a charcoal briquet. The boss was not happy about the burned batch...he was impressed with the burning loaf
Nanny Ogg?

burning bread ..
Nanny Ogg, one of the three (four?) best known witches from Discworld?? A sort of grannny look-a-like with .... .... shall we say a bit of a complex mind and a vocabulary that would assure moderator actions every 2nd phrase..
I quote from the introduction:
"GYTHA 'NANNY' OGG, the author of these works, is a renowned practitioner of that combination of practical psychology, common sense and occult engineering known as witchcraft.
Her genius even extends to the written language, since it will be obvious to our readers that she has an approach to grammar and spelling that is all her very own. As far as punctuation goes she appears to have no approach at all, but seems merely to throw it at the page from a distance, like playing darts."
recipes include "celery astonishment" (They wouldn't let me add all the inter-estin' bits, especially the aubergine. They said someone's wife laughed) , "bananana soup surprise" (People complained they made the soup a bit too surprisin'.) and "sheep's eyes"
You never read Discworld books???

Evangeline Posted Nov 6, 2003
I thought that was a Pratchett character. No, I haven't read the Discworld books. I bought Guards Guards Gaurds and another one, but I haven't read them yet.

Pratchett indeed I've been travelling up and down to Amsterdam for about two years .. bought & read all (20~23 at that time). I was known to other travellers as "the idiot that couldn't stop laughing" .. well.. it usually was 7am when I had my first LOL.
I think yahoo can receive 1.2 Mb mail messages, I got the cook book (version 1: uncorrected) electronically.

Thanks for the cookbook!
Wyrd Sisters is the other book.
Idiot who can't stop laughing... I might have been awarded that (not sure, laughing too loud). It was 1983, and I was on a bus to Alabama as part of a school trip. First time I read the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. My dad bought me a for the trip in case the hotel didn't have enough. The was in my duffle bag on top of my clothes... The person sharing the bus seat with me was a bit upset that her book wasn't as funny. We switched books. She had been reading Mark Twain (which I find pretty funny as well). She was even more upset when I laughed reading her book.

Wyrd Sisters is brilliant! The first few books were.. reasonable.. after # 3 or so they were great. The most recent ones (22 and later are ... funny ... : "" but not "".
btw I have almost all discworld electronically .. for backup reasons of course, and I bought the paper versions as well

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
