But, Evangeline: surely everyone has some variation on the theme of "FRUIT SALAD" ???
In the UK generally served with either evaporated milk, custard, or ice cream [depending on your personal preference!!!]
Dreamweaver [currently suffering a raging sore throat] has the following recipe from Denmark for their version of fruit salad:
1 tin of ordinary fruit salad [commercial]
1 punnet fresh strawberries
2 bananas, chunky slices
2 kiwis, peeled, quartered and sliced
300 ml double cream [whipped thick] with a pinch of REAL vanilla sugar in it
1 bag plain chocolate buttons [ie. NOT milk chocolate]
optional: large slug of whatever alcohol you stumble upon when you open the bar - NOT vodka, as this has no personality/distict flavour of its own]
Peel/cut/prepare fruit, drench in optional and TRY to keep hands off for at LEAST 15 minutes. Meanwhile, whip cream. Mix choc buttons into fruit, drain off excess liquid
[THIS HAS NOW BECOME THE COOK'S PRIVILEGE/RESPONSIBILITY TO DRINK SO IT ISN'T WASTED!!!]
Mix gently with whipped cream, serve

It's not fair! I had this really looonnnnggg posting all typed and ready to post...then...my ISP disconnected. Near as I recall, it went something like this:
Sorry to hear that Dreamweaver is .
<lemonade+and for Dreamweaver.
Fruit Salads are very refreshing in hot weather. Our little dog likes the berry salad. He doesn't like grapefruit or oranges so he won't eat the citrus salad.
Berry Salad:
Wash prep and mix the following in a mixing bowl.
Blueberries
Strawberries
Raspberries
Seedless Grapes
Add sliced Bananas, and Orange juice. Amounts vary every time I make this depending on who and how many people are sharing it. Pears and Apples can be added.
Usually this is eaten over cereal or yogurt for breakfast. For dessert it would be served over pudding which is closer to a custard than a (but not baked) or .
Citrus Salad:
Wash prep and mix the following in a mixing bowl.
Oranges
Bananas
Kiwi
Pineapple
Grapefruit
Again the amounts vary depending on preference. The ingredients are in descending order of quantity. I usually add just the bottle of pineapple-coconut juice...however, if you want it to taste more like a pina colada rum probably wouldn't hurt.
I am glad to see that someone uses real cream instead of those whipped toppings. How do you feel about marshmallows in fruit salads? Do you ever add nuts such as almonds or walnuts?

Hi,
Nice of you two to drop by. Make yourselves comfortable. Would you like some refreshments? Indicates a table on the side filled with: It would be nice to relax and visit for a while. I've been so busy running around the campsite that I haven't done much here except a bit of cleaning(and no, you weren't in the way, Bob).

I imagine Alan Partridge would have a word or two about that!!!

Who is Alan Partridge? The lyrics are from Justin Wilson's rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas. Justin Wilson was a Cajun Comedian as well as a good cook. He had comedy albums during the 1960,s and 1970's then a cooking show during the 1980's.

Is BBC America popular then?

I think it's probably true that the BBC isn't doing as well in the UK as it once did. There's been a definite tendency to concentrate on 'instruction' rather than 'entertainment' for some years now, and there's a limit to how many garden makeovers/interior decorating programmes/antiques roadshow programmes viewers can put up with before reaching for the On/Off button or the Video remote ...

In the U.S. the focus of network television has been almost exclusively entertainment. If it weren't for Public Television and Cable I would have disowned my television a long time ago. Our local PBS station has been showing BBC programs for at least twenty five years. Dr. Who and Red Dwarf are the most popular among my friends. The Vicar of Dibley is another favorite as well as the Sharpe movies with Sean Bean.
*stuffs the large, heavy box of video tapes back into the closet*
Are You Being Served and Antiques Roadshow(American version) are reportedly the biggest fund raisers during the recent pledge drives. The station is funded by donations. The Louisiana PBS station is http://www.lpb.org/
We also subscribe to digital cable which includes the BBCAmerica channel as well. Every now and then they do a Red Dwarf marathon...and no one sleeps for a couple of days.
Other than that I'm usually reading or watching the History Channel(or hanging around H2G2).

We have Red Dwarf marthons on UK gold although they have'nt done it for awhile, One asks oneself why. (note, I'm not posh, it's just a saying). It will be great when Red Dwarf: The film comes out next year!!!

I taped every episode of Red Dwarf when LPB showed them. That doesn't stop me from watching the re runs of re runs on the the BBC channel or LPB. I wonder how long I'll have to wait to see the Red Dwarf movie.
