Amazing how much easier it is to write about a place you've been to for a couple of days than about a place you've lived your whole life in... (but a Jerusalem entry _is_ on its way, I promise!)
Anyway, after having it in Writing Workshop for a bit I was convinced to move it here - and as usual, I'd appreciate any feedback.

Hi Lady P!
This is a great entry. You have given the place a real sense of character.
How many people live here by the way? How big is the refugee community there (% of total inhabitants)
It seems pretty good to me. Just a few small typos:
political center --> centre
neighboring --> neighbouring
Middle-Earstern drivers --> Eastern
Sheikh Husein --> is the spelling ok? Could be.
Well done!

Woodpigeon, I have to thank you not just for the corrections, but also because your question got me to do a little more research (via the links section in amman.com), and I found some very good links that I'm going to incorporate into the entry.
(I'm posting them here now just so I can copy&paste them later, haven't got time right now to edit the entry... of course, that doesn't mean you can't have a gander at them yourself )

What a great, great entry!
I reckon you can remove the 'short guide' from the title and just call it 'Amman, Jordan'.
Also I wanted a little information about Wadi Mujib and the Dana Nature Reserve (even if just a short blurb about what you might see in each or what they're famous for). Along the lines of Wadi Mujib (close to Madaba) which is home to the Mujib man-eating crab or the Dana Nature Reserve where you can see elephants as bit as teacups.
Sorry, but you get the picture...

How did you know about the man-eating crabs?!
Anyway, I think I'll just make these two into a link - that Ministry of Tourism site is wonderful, I cannot believe I didn't find it before!
I'll also add the Dead Sea, I didn't think about it for some reason... maybe because I'm too used to it being 'ours' and it didn't occur to me that it has two sides.
*s off happily to edit the entry*

Entry edited - have a look and tell me what you think.
Also, should I include the two statistics links I've got (Department of Statistics and National Information System), or are they too professional and boring?

Nice entry, Lady P. Did you have time to visit Petra?

6 - Oh well, I'll add the two links then. Can't hurt. And the wet hair thing really is weird. The friend I was staying with told me about how her boyfriend once had two guests at his place, both girls, and as he was giving them a tour around they couldn't understand why people kept staring. Only later they realised this was because the girls took a shower before they went out and their hair was still wet (I suppose the people on the street were thinking 'oh, that lucky dog!' )
Krabbat - Yes, I did, though it was just a short visit because I had to get back to Amman. I've got my travel log here if you're interested: A3600668 .

Good article, nice to see one of mine referenced!
Is there mud on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea? (I'm not saying there isn't, just that I've only heard it associated with the Israeli side.)

That's a neat entry - traffic in Amman really is pretty insane...
As for mud, I haven't been on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea but according to guidebooks and such it's there. Which would make sense, because the two sides are really very similar.
