As I have posted elsewhere, I also have to back out, due to a bout of the flu so bad it even stopped me hootooing for two days.

Well it's only Wednesday today. Wrap up warm and see how you feel on Friday afternoon. Hopefully you'll have made a full recovery

Well quite. It's knocked out out for two days so far, you're waking up today, that's three days, ah, no Real Man lets 'flu keep him down for over a week.
Teach you to consort with nasty, germ carrying sproglets.
BTW, if anyone kipping at mine fancies coming down on the Friday, they're more than welcome. A tour of some of the smaller hostelries of Burton may be on offer

Kerr, I might take you up on that offer.
the decision very much depends upon the state of play in tidying my place up for mother's forthcoming visit, and also how long it takes to get my central heating system fixed - it's currently crocked

I'd love to, but unfortunately I have to be here to feed the rabbits. I'll think about whether I want to annoy my parents a bit more and ask them to pop down on Saturday to check them.

GD. No central heating at ours, either. The pump's gone and we haven't got round to replacing it, which is why we're glad we did';t get rif of the gas fires.

ah. That's interesting. Is anyone staying at the pub? I'm just worried about my asthma - gas fires set it off, as does smoking and I'm worried about combining the two and making myself ill - especially as (get this) so does going from icy cold outsides to heated insides. It's all sounding like a recipe for disaster (although I'm determined to come, even if I have to drive home again the same night).
I'd noticed that my asthma was much better than it normally is at this time of year because I'm not going from very cold air to the hot stuffy tube, although I'm using my inhalor in the car since the snow started, which I wasn't doing before.
If I stay in the pub, could I bring Buster for company if no-one else is staying there?

Potholer may be statying in the pub. Sorry, nope you can't bring Buster, purely because the landlord has a dog, specifically a dog that hates any other dog in his pub. (Max doesn't come downstairs in the pub, btw, if anyone doesn't like dogs, he lives upstairs all the time).
What we can do though Mina, is not use our gas fire and use an electric fan heater instead, if that would be better for you?

Unfortunately I'm not much better with those either - I had to walk out of a shop on Saturday as their heater was making me a bit ill.
Is there a room I can sleep in that's not heated at all? I don't like the cold much, but once I'm snuggled up in the few hundred blankets I'll bring I'll be ok. The respite while I'm sleeping should mean I'm ok.

Sure, no heating is not a problem. There's no fire of any variety in the front bedroom. I'll look out a 3 season sleeping bag, you'll be toasty in that.
You'll be too pissed to care by the time we get round to post-pub drinkies, anyway

"You'll be too pissed to care by the time we get round to post-pub drinkies, anyway" - which leads to another problem for the next day, and that will be negotiating the motorways of Britain with a blood-alcohol level of 85

Thanks very much! I must be the only person *wanting* an unheated room.

Mina, I don't care too much for over heated rooms. It's just that when the temperature in my bedroom drops to around 10C (as it has the last two nights) that I start to moan.

Hey, if we want I can turn off all the heaters in the house
GD- slap-up breakfast. Several pints of coffee, brisk walk, set off after lunch. Sorted.
