Just a quick thing about one of my favorite breakfast foods. I think everything's fairly clear.

I added a little bit on the basis of a comment I received. If anyone has any information on an old movie someone, possibly Cary Grant, made hole-in-ones in and called them 'gashouse eggs,' drop a line.

Laughs to self -- ever since I posted that comment about seeing * gashouse eggs * demonsrated in a film , I have been racking my brains to remember who the actor was-- but since this must have been over sixty years ago , the information has passed though the decrepit sieve that is now my brain.

I must say though , that I have added many a gram of cholesterol to my veins with the recipe , which in turn has become a family favourite down to the grandchildren .

All sorts of additions can be made to the basic formula -- from Parmesan cheese ( more cholesterol ) through all sorts of sauces , to healthy herbs .

Always seems to taste great , no matter how one tortures it !

One of our faves at home! But we call them "One Eyed Jacks" or sometimes "Aimee's eggs" after the girl who first taught them to us.

We like to remove rather beautiful circles of bread by twisting an upturned glass or small mug in the centre of the bread slice, and these circles are then highly-prized items!

Also, I just found out that my parents put the eggs into the bread, not the other way around. I don't know what difference this makes. Mine cook faster I think.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Felonious Monk - h2g2s very own Bogeyman

I've just noticed this one. It's a nice entry. I used to eat this occasionally, except we called it Man on a Raft in our family.

Well done !

And what fun to see all the variant names !

I used to use the egg into the hole rather than the bread over the egg -- but having tried your way , I prefer it !
