Just read, in a thread, someone saying something like "thank goodness for e-mail notification". I was unaware that this facility had been added (I knew I'd requested it, recently), has it been?

I am assuming that the 'email notification' comment was probably referring to when their Edited Guide entry was on the front page.
All authors are notified by email on the very day that their EG entry is published on the <./>frontpage</.> and categorised in the Guide - this has been the procedure for years 
'Thread/post reply' notification via email is not available on h2g2

No, it refers to notification of when a topic you subscribe to gets updated.

h2g2 threads don't have that facility.
Perhaps their post was referring to a message board thread?

It used to exist on the old h2 boards, and its loss on the move to DNA was a feature that folk whinged like hell about. Well they certainly did on the 606 football boards at least.
I'd be interested if you could come up with a link, Argon0, as to where you saw this message.

We don't have email notification for this kind of thing, only for moderation and Edited Guide purposes. It's possible the Researcher concerned is confusing the 'subscribe to this conversation' function with email. Or maybe one of their friends emailed them.
