There's no such thing as a silly question!
We can't all get along because h2g2 resources are not infinite, so there is some "competition" for them. The italics have one view of priorities, GAs have a different view. Until those views are understood, we won't "get along".
Matt was unable to do some things within h2g2 - because the italics wouldn't provide the required resources\support. Eventually it got too much for him.
This is the situation, but at the moment there are two very different views about it, so there are two "sides"
Fair answer?
Another beer?

ah dear... well as Abi said maybe DD and I are like Romeo and Juliet, reuniting the ACEs and GAs. I sure hope so... this thing has gone on for far too long... especially since I dont think there is much reason for us to be fighting anyway...

Thanks for the beer Kes. I agree FC I still am unclear as to what all the fighting is about.

Ahhhh. This Angel was actually used as in example in the (HORRIBLE, HURTFUL, EMOTIONALLY SCARRING... *ahem*), Angel-bashing that went on a few weeks ago. I'm gonna speak candidly here guys- there were some seriously hurtful things said a while back, which I and Zax tried to argue against in the ACE egroup, and I believe Matt did in other places. However, I had hoped that the whole business was done and dusted.
*sighs*
And now it seems like nothing compared to what's going on here. My loyalties are divided. I feel like that Calvin and Hobbes sketch, where he sees both sides of the argument, and suddenly the cartoon (literally) loses perspective. He has to go back to seeing only his side of the argument for everything to go back to normal. Then he goes back to his Dad with the immortal line "I still think I'm right."
*grins*
*sighs again*
Right, there is one thing I can do in all of this mess. Peta and Mark have brought up the idea of a code of conduct. Oh, and while I'm here, what do you lot think of the idea of going official? I myself am completely opposed to it, and I know of at least two others who feel the same way, but what are your thoughts? Anyway, I'm not sure a code of conduct is that way to go, but I was making up a page to direct new Saints as to what they're meant to do. I have to finish this, and make sure that the entry on how to welcome newbies ("hi-tiquette" as Zax dubbed it).
*smiles*
Ok, now I feel useful again. Always helps to have something to do...

I love what you guys do, (most of you, most of the time) I used to greet before I was an ACE nad just copied what the ACEs did and improved on it, so that Abi once told me she had copied my style. So I don't there is much harm in you greeting people just don't slag off anyone else or cause anyone offence in so doing and don't contradict a ACE it only confuses newbies.

*hugs Tweet and DD and Zax(and anyone else stuck or confused about this whole mess*
I'm so sorry about this whole thing I know its not my fault but some of you/us are caught in this horrible situation.
I personally would not like the Angels to become "official" because half the fun we have is not having to act be a certian code. I like being free to do what I like in the site and greeting when I have time. From what I read of the ACEs code, it seems like if they are online they have to be writeing entries or greeting or something.
I kinda like being able be like freelance.
Does this make sence or am I still not explaining right?

*praying so long and thanks for all the fish does not post here*
Thanks Courtney.
I also like to be "freelance".
Thanks DD, for your support, I think you're great to speak out.
Tweetie that's a great idea. I can't wait to read your page.
So, as I had no idea what the whole "Angel-bashing" thing was about, I hit the nail on the head when copying & pasting that greeting? Amazing. Anyway, I was shocked when I read that. What if that newbie recipient of that greeting had been a 13 y.o. girl? We ~need~ a code of conduct for Angel greetings. So messages like that never happen again. When I greet, I read the homepage, say something about their interest, etc., then leave the set greeting.
The soapbox thread has thrown up a lot of interesting stuff.
I had no idea that the editors offered to make us *official*!
I would vote for "stay unofficial" though, but definately with a "code of conduct".
*hugs everybody in here*

Love you guys Yes, I'll get on that page today. I believe Zax was meant to write the hi-tiquette article, but since she lacks time right now, I think it should be a collaborative thing between the Archs.
So, GB suggested a group meeting over at the "Ask the Archs thread". Hang on a tick and I'll find the link...

OK Arch's - over to you for a draft set of ideas. Based on recent postings (in various places), now that the dust is subsiding, some good ideas are emerging. I wish you all the best in your endeavours, and will help anyway that's appropriate.

I would vote for freelance. I like the idea of a code of conduct, as long as it is very loose. Something along the lines of "Be helpful. Don't swear." would about do it as far as I'm concerned.
