a word about plastic pitches...
they are terrific, at least the new ones. my son's club has them, and they're sweet. until then, the alternatives were gravel (slippery and hard to fall on) or real grass (never playable except sometimes in little villages where there's one club with 3 teams; AS Montchat has 26 squads for 4 pitches...)
even on the pro level, the little clubs often have pitches that are NEVER really playable after matchday 3 (i suspect some do it on purpose to "even" the playing field). the term "cow pasture" would be a generous description of Caen's pitch for example...
is the situation better on the other side of the channel? the french popular idea of england is a grassy wonderland.

me[Andy]g Posted Mar 18, 2005
Dunfermline 1-3 Hibernian (O'Connor)
Oldham 0-4 Luton (Nicholls)
Partick Thistle 0-0 St. Mirren
Sunderland 4-1 Coventry (Elliott)
Windsor and Eton 1-1 Staines Town (Peter Holsgrove)
... and the link? Well... I've no real idea, but I guess Windsor & Eton vs. Staines must have a lot to do with it, so it might have something to do with royalty? Is the patron of a club from each game a member of / related to the royal family? Can't you tell I have no idea?

Dunfermline 2-1 Hibernian (Donnelly)
Oldham 1-2 Luton (Brkovic)
Partick Thistle 0-1 St. Mirren (Russell)
Sunderland 3-0 Coventry (Stewart)
Windsor & Eton 1-1 Staines Town (Currie)
My guess at the connection: famous commentators as club officials. Barry Davies is president of Windsor & Eton, Jimmy Hill was manager of Coventry, and Andy Gillies of Radio Five Live is a director of Dunfermline.

I did notice that, GD. I also love the name of Windsor & Eton's 'keeper: Chuck Martini. He'll play any time, any place, anywhere...

Just to let you know, I'm really enjoying reading all of your attempts at getting the bonus points.
Some are quite imaginative, and have obviously taken a fair amount of brain wracking to work out.
Some on the other hand are just laughable

One of the problems in having to select games played by shitty little clubs like Windsor & Eton who are watched by one man and his dog, is that you've got to wait until the bloke has finished walking his bloody dog, got back home and only *then* does he start writing the match report
So, I know the game finished 2-1 in favour of Windsor, but I don't know who scored them and when. Any links that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.
