Lil, that is unbelievable in the 21st century
The son of a Native American family, who are very good friends of mine, wears the center of his hair half way down his back with both sides shaved almost bald. He is a very good-looking kid and smart as a whip!
He must be about ten or twelve by now. I have known him and his family for at least half a dozen years. He has worn his hair this way for as long as I have known him. I have often wondered what kind of reactions he has experienced at school. I hope they have all been positive, or at least a chance to remove some of the misunderstanding caused by 'The Lone Ranger' and other Hollywood crap

Reminds me of the woman who was told off for not speaking English in the US. Turns out she had been speaking Navajo on her cell phone

Sleep-Deprived As Usual ...
I do not recommend sleep-deprivation. It's unpleasantly like being drunk.

Saw a fata Morgana mirage today, just before sundown, a reflection of the sun on a cloud mass that made the sun appear to be 90 degrees away from where it was.

Named after Morgan Le Fay, who'd developed a trick of projecting her image on a waterfall in an enchanted cave she shared with Merlin.

Some years ago, a former member of h2g2 introduced me to the concept of the Fata Morgana, and I found a good number of examples via our friend Google. Some were completely amazing.

We were sailing in the North Sea on a hot summer's day when we spotted some strange looking objects far away just above the horizon. In our binoculars we could see that they were the small North Frisian island which were mirrored on the sky. We could literally look down on them from above and count farms and even animals

Happy birthday h2g2! I can't believe it's been 20 years. We may be going off fumes but we're still going...
