Talking to the relief nurse this morning, found out she has a daughter who is studying linguistic anthropology, which sounds like a ~really~ interesting thing. She's in a good locale to pursue the field, too, since there are nearly a dozen variety of Pueblo native american tribes in the Taos/Albuquerque area. And then there's the Navajo nation which is pretty robust, and three or four variants of Apache doing pretty well down on the Mescalero res. To capture not just the current lingua franca but the background etymology of those threatened languages is excellent work.
Or she could go to Scotland...

New Mexico is also a good place to pick up Spanish, an essential if one is interested in something like Nahuatl.
In turn reading Nahuatl requires a knowlege of the spoken language, since in the written form! words that don't lend themselves ready pictographic depiction are formed by combining pictographs to make double entendres.
Nahuatl, the ancient language of the Valley of Mexico and particulatly of the Aztecs, is still spoken by a dewvsurviving groups, and is in the same group of native American languages as Navajo.

Well, I'm certainly picking up Spanish and improving my accent, although my Spanish is very hospital-centric.
Yes, it's Thursday. Ladies and Gentlemen and other entities and minerals, please fasten your seatbelts: Freddie* will be here on Saturday and remains in the building until the 25th. While this is not a great time for most people to start new projects, it favors returning to work on long-standing chores and problems. You may continue that painting, that exploratory dig, that book, that tour of London...
*Freddie's the atelier nickname for a retrograde Mercury.

Not wishing to tempt fate...
It has been a glorious day on the Isle of Wight.
I was running late this morning so I couldn't link up with FS.
However I have had a good walk from Shanklin chine to Sandown, via places I remember from my childhood.

Cast taken off today...only for a replacement one to be put on for another month. Although they have said I can now start putting some weight on to it . I anchored my boat in Whitecliff bay near Shanklin just before I broke my leg.

Sounds like you are making good progress.
I'm currently in the Spice Island at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.

Back from w**k trip to Slovakia, spending half my Friday evening manning a scout event post ... Off for a weekend with Mrs SG V and two friends to Kullen in Southern Sweden Sat-Sun. Just staying at home is so overrated

Hi.
It's been long. I've been stressed. But now I have a week off, and that feels good. Just catching up with myself, and trying not to freak out about my first ever trip to China. To work.

Sorry to hear about the stress, Milla, but that's good about the week off
My new job has been stressful for the past month, but next week *will* be more positive, as plans are being put in place to improve organisation of tasks, which will help a lot. The tough time meant I thorougly enjoyed my day off last week, though, when I prepared for going to the excellent London Meet
I'm sure you'll find it good when you get there in China - my partner visited some years ago, and always remembered it as a superb experience.

Hope China's good Milla.
I'm off to Germany in a week and a half. We'll see how far 30 university credits gets me in speaking the language.
