*waves to ITIWBS*

The HD 7 that is about to enter my life apparently has email and phone capability. It will be too big to hold to my ear, and it doesn't have a keyboard, so I don't think either capability is particularly capable.

I am slowly getting used to my Nokia Lumia 630, it runs windows. Minus's: Dodgy touch screen, and it's windows.
Plus's: It fits in your pocket and you can have Kraftwerk as a ringtone.
Leg is definitely getting better.

We're holed up in a pub near Nelson on the South Island, it has a wide range of decent beer, free wifi, and a couple of plug sockets that I might well take advantage of later smiley - winkeye

New Zeland's a lovely country, a lot like I imagine England used to be like, but with modern-day technology smiley - smiley

Re: post 1561, I know what you mean.

The current generation of internet hardware designers seem to have thrown all concepts of user friendly ergonlmics to the winds and have no sense that their "Keep it simple, stupid!" byword is supposed to mean easy and convrnient to use.

They keep piling function on function beyond all reason to an extant that its a wonder the system is not in a permanent crash.

Fully agree. The mad dash for new features has given us a range of hardware, and software, that is close to unusable.

My main laptop is an old netbook, because it works very well. I don't need a tablet or ultrabook or any of that stuff.
My phone and desktop have both only recently been upgraded, and I made sure I went for simply stuff that I understand.

Adding stuff purely for marketing purposes make it less and less usable smiley - erm

The netbook I'm using, a doughty little Toshiba, has been in my employ since 2010; it's only just beginning to choke a bit on some hevvy-tracking web pages cos it only has one GB of RAM, but if I were to upgrade that I bet it could continue indefinitely. It's fallen off the bed a few times, hit a tile floor, and kept right on going. I cannot make phone calls with it. Who cares? smiley - winkeye

Hmmm. I'll need to find a cheap protective case for the HD 7.

I frankly wouldn't be using the new VZW Ellipsis 7 tablet I have now if I hadn't picked it up on a free promotion.

Upgrades to an 8 GB capacity cpu on my older HP (2006, >1/2 GB cpu) and Toshiba (2008, 1 GB CPU) notebooks on the agenda, as well as new Linux operating systems for them (finally available).

Next time I buy something new though, it'll have to be a Microsoft system.

Too many people I correspond with demanding Microsoft 8 or higher for compatibility and that takes an 8 GB capacity cpu.

My oldest laptop, an old Dell with only 18 GB ram, hasn't capacity even for all the updates for the Windows xp it came preloaded with.

Well Marv should certainly be certified...

Spent this afternoon at the Horniman Museum on top of Forest Hill.
Not so much a Museum more a Victorian collection of curiosities. lots of stuffed animals, and collected artefacts, together with an aquarium, liberary, small animal collection, demonstration gardens, and parkland.

Mr Horniman was a Victorian tea importer and this grew out of his personal collections.

He was also very clearly a follower of Mr Darwin, exhibits are very heavy on evolution.

So a very good place to send any local creationists smiley - smiley

Yup, I am buttressing my CISSP certification with the Certified Ethical Hacker cert as well. It gave me my first real dive into the offensive side of security. I'm sort of grooming myself for a different position that would entail white hat hacking as a key role. I've grown tired of my current place in the infosec community.
