I remember those adventure books. I've not thought of them for years, probably not since I was travelling around Nepal and found myself walking through places with the same names as locations used in those books and briefly imagined I had been transported into the storyline.

I had a lot of fun with those books when I was younger. I even had one that included some BASIC programs so that you could use it with your computer. Ah, the good old days. smiley - bigeyes

BB - It was the Hyde Park I went to. They've got new seats with cupholders. I bought a coffee that almost fell through the hole in the middle of the cupholder.

Afternoon, all.

I've never felt the need to touch another shopper's groceries, for any reason. I suppose that if I saw someone obviously struggling, I would offer to help, but that's it. I can't even put my own groceries on the belt without mixing up S's system. How would I handle someone else's?

Titania (gone for lunch)

What really gets to me is when I've arranged my food stuff neatly on the conveyor belt, not only sorted after weight and fragilenss but also turned the right way so that the cashier will be able to scan it easily without twisting and turning the package. If there are persons behind me in the queue, I usually finish the lining up with a separator.

And once in a while, you'll find you have someone behind you who's obviously in an awful hurry to start putting their food on the belt, because they will use that separator to shove your food into one big messy pile so that they can start unloading their basket. Into one big messy pile as well.

It's at times like these that I seriously turn into a hideous and mean smiley - monster and tell them to keep their smiley - bleep hands off my food!

Yup, even told off an old man rather sharply once and, when he protested, I asked him 'do you seriously believe it will make the process faster for all of us if you pile up not only your own but MY stuff as well?'

Idiots. There are plenty. Out there.

Dizzy the Void

Ah, yes, my first encounter with the book-variety was a Which Way book about Star Trek, and then I discovered the Choose Your Own Adventure series.

And yes, I've seen the "vote on one of several explicitly-presented choices" variety, too, but with the "Z-Machine Adventure" setup I was talking about, the other players would give commands from whole cloth, and the person running it (the "game master," I guess) would use as many of them as possible, to the extent that they made sense for the situation.

Someone in the previous Atelier thread asked what would happen if commands contradicted each other; the answer was that it's kosher to say "No, don't do that" with an explanation of why and what should happen instead, or to pause the command-giving to reach a consensus on what should happen next.

As for how to set it up, I'm kind of thinking a single page for the concept, and then each adventure would have its own thread (or series of threads). Or maybe a single page for each adventure, and then one thread for the adventure itself and other comments can go in other threads. Or something like that.

Morning.
Its one of those days again. All a bit grey and meh. It was a bit odd looking out from the train and seeing a very defined line of cloud floating low over the hills but it was getting a bit of sunlight lighting up the underside edge in an odd colour of orange.

Yar,
Perhaps you could generate a "separate entity" thread by making up a New Researcher number. Then you could solicit inputs on your Personal Space on a Journal Entry. As you make decisions what to add to the tale, you could then copy and paste the new info into the next Posting on the Forum devoted to the story. You may need to preface the forum with "Please DO NOT POST HERE, as the GameMaster will do all the Posting from inputs gathered @ ....."

Ah - choose your own adventure books. I had a few, and would read them several times to see what different adventures you could have. Great fun.

I'll have to go back to the Hyde Park Picture House next time I'm in Leeds, which will probably be around Christmas as that's where my inlaws live. Cupholders, eh? Do they seem in keeping with the rest of the Edwardian cinema?

I used to have a lot of the fighting fantasy adventure books, my son has them now. They were good fun, but I always had to cheat.

I hope you feel better soon, GDZ smiley - moonsmiley - moon

Irving Washington - Gone Writing

Okay, nobody breath: It's Tuesday morning, which is intake day here at w*rk. It usually means a lobby full of people waiting to tell me all of their problems, whether I can solve them or not.

Today, we've got two people, total, so far. If this keeps up, I might actually get around to helping some of the lot from last week....
