*wanders through her new rooms, planning where furniture should go*
*looks up and down the long hallway, deliberately door-less on one side for hanging artworks, and thinks about what might display to advantage here*
*ambles into library, feeling all sensual and materialistic as she slides her hand along the polished cherry shelves*
*comes into the salon where the fire is hissing and popping cheerily, mixed with the gentle zzz sounds of a snoring sloth*
May I have some tea, Matina? I don't know what to have for dinner, and I have the latest Wired to read, with, it says, a full story of the MS antitrust case. Maybe I'll just have the article for dinner.
*settles into the middle sofa where she can watch the fire

Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here Posted Oct 16, 2000
Good afternoon Lil (Tuesday). Matina a glass of Negron please. This bittersweet baby has layers of flavour that made it the wine drinker's cocktail, back when wine drinkers were brave enough to drink them.
Stir together, over ice;
double sweet vermouth
double Campari
double gin,
Strain into a cocktail glass, add a shaving of orange peel, twisted over the drink so that a coating of orange oil floats on the surface. Sip salaciously. Price: $NZ7. Only available if you've trained your local cocktail shaker.
Matina, this is superb. Thank you. Glug
Loony settles down on the red-velvet-couch with his lap top and starts work on page one (of 40) of Shearing magazine. A magazine that appears quarterly on which he has just scored the pre-press contract IRL.

l finally got hold of Fruity lRL -- odd fellow with the mustard fetish, if you recall -- his ability to get online has become rather impaired since off and heading to school this year -- aaannnddd have sorted out with him a scheme to get us to the They Might Be Giants concert coming in a few weeks here, despite neither of us having a car. We're hijacking a van...
Matina, can l have one of whatever Loony's having, please?
*flits about humming*

Wheeeeww!!
Didn't think I was ever gonna get back and then wasn't sure I was in the right place, what with all the redecorating and such. Looking good, Lil.
*realises no one is up so decides to leave a short(yeah, sure, this is jr,folks)note**scribble scribble scratch scribble**thinks that ought to catch some of it and hopes Lil realizes he's used a dry erase marker on the window and doesn't send Matina after him**ahhhh! the light came on*
* NOTE *
THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN APPLIED TO THIS GLASS USING A DRY ERASE MARKER.
*THE REST OF THE NOTE*
Noticed my last attempt at a post here got lost (possibly in a wormhole or somewhere. So, although it is dated and may be of no consequence or current relavance, I will try again.
To all the betrothed, (and those possibly hitched with curtain hangers and carpet crawlers about by now) I wish you all of the happiness and joy my Bride of almost 29 solar revolutions(she became such as the result of a temporary lapse in good judgement-much to my good fortune) and I have had. None of the sadness or misfortunes we have shared and some of the less than great times we have had(makes it easier to recognize and appreciate the good times). It is the best of times, it is worst of times, but the whole is meant to be greater than it's parts. I raise my cup to you all. It is a courageous, terrifying, and wonderful journey you are embarking upon. Fare thee well.
That said, on to more routine business. Lil,the 'thankyouthankyouthanyou' was for the tie you gave to me upon your return from out WEST. I really liked it and was somewhat surprised you noticed the same thing about me that my parents notice some 600+ moons ago. They called me sun and you gave me a sun slide with the tie. Perceptive woman.
I haven't been around lately as I have been involved with remodeling and such, also. Changed the upstairs bathroom out from a contemopary tub to a cast iron slipper tub with shower and rearranged everything else and added a double bowl lav w/vanity. Didn't install the tub/shower quite as the manufacturer had envisioned so had to take everything (including the floor and plumbing) out and start over. Might not have been my best idea ever but, I like it better this way. It sure takes a lot longer when you don't have bots to help.(or a plan, or a design, or a drawing; just an idea of how I wanted it to be when done)(dum)Oh, well. It's done now (except for the tile and the paper-and I can dam well tell you they will dam well wait till this winter!)
I'll try to get back later when folks is up and about and in and out.
Thanks for not having the bots install locks.
Missed ya'll. ttfn
*END OF REST OF NOTE*
p.s. dry erase markers wipe up with a paper towel or a dry cloth
(too bad that doesn't work on old conversations and such)
*looks about and appreciates workmanship of bots**nods approvingly*
*pop*

Maybe someone could help me with this word that I can't find in any of my English dictionarys - what do you call the process of starting fires to make earth more fertile?

Sporky: do you know from what movie this line comes from? "I'm your huckleberry."
Titania, I don't know whether English has a particular word for that. In respect of what settlers do to virgin land, we have the phrase "slash and burn", but as you can see, it has a very negative sense. I know it takes place on established farmland here, because there have been some multi-car crashes caused by the smoke drifting on to highways.
jr, it sure is good to hear from you *quickly snapping picture of window before dry-erasing his screed* and I am happy that you like the re-furb. Yours sounds as if it was a lot more challenging!
Matina, may I have some tea please? I think I may order a small cleaning bot from CLI for Matina to be in charge of. Just a unit to vacuum, dust, and do linens, all that backroom work.

*sigh*
The trouble is, I only have a very old Swedish word for it, impossible to find in modern dictionaries...
Matina, another caffe latte, please...
Lil, do you really thinks it wise to let Matina be in charge, even if it is of another robot? She might start trying to take charge of US, once getting the taste for it...

Well, isn't that servants traditionally do? They become indispensable. Actually, after what happened to Minoova, Garius and Affi really tightened up some of the programming. Even if somebody attempted to co-opt Matina they would still be constrained to behave like a servant.
Maybe you should post your question in the "ask h2g2" forum. I posted there a long time ago, asking whether anyone has seen my ex-husband, and I still get responses from time to time -- none helpful, I'm afraid.

Burn-beat isn't a phrase currently in use in the UK. The fires are called "stubble fires" but I don't know of any verb that would apply.
Key: Complain about this post
