I saw a too ...
Belated birthday greetings, as usual.
Ben, structural surveys are always frightening. But you don't *have* to do all the work at once - the house is unlikely to collapse without warning overnight for want of a new gutter or something. And nobody from the mortgage lender is going to come round and check, now, are they? Are they ... well, I certainly hope not; we still haven't replaced the waste pipe ...
I shave my entire legs (ie above as well as below the knee) twice a week all the year round, because I like smooth lovely legs. Nobody else notices or cares.
Hypatia, both library stories made me laugh a great deal (sorry). We are in the process of toilet training OSH so I have sympathy with parents who find their offspring caught short, but what on earth was wrong with using the toilet?! Peeing into a target from a height sounds more like training for a party trick.
Job is still fantabulous although I do miss being at home, and this weekend I am home alone because DH has taken the kids to see his family (who are probably beginning to think I don't like them, given that this is I think the third time he's done it this year). And while they are away I am going to nail the village project and all the household paperwork and all the Guide unit's paperwork. No, really, I am ... I know I said that last time, and the time before, but this time, that's definitely what's going to happen. I mean ... I've only been here for an *hour* ... and a bit ... that's not very long, as a proportion of a whole weekend, is it?

I like it. Just blazing through the archive now.

Hyp, we haven't exchanged contracts or agreed a completion date yet. Probably in the next 2-3 weeks for both.

Blazing through comic archives? That accounts for a lot of what I've been doing lately. I'll have to check that one out when I finish my current archive.
It's a horrible feeling when you finish a webcomic archive...the realization that an entire day (or two or three or a month) will pass before you can learn anything new of the characters, where before you could advance plot at your whim. The only thing to end the pain of ending an archive is to go and find another archive.

I'm sure you'll be relieved to have it all settled so you can move in. And Z, also.
Affy, I'm glad you aren't still in Lake Charles. I hope everyone there has gotten out of the way of the storm.

I hope so too.
Though I'm still nervous. There's some land that the family has down there, and while it was never really a massive source of income, it was always *something* we could rent out.
Of course, my parents being the understanding and caring people that they are, would always *always* be okay with waiting just a little bit longer for the paycheck when hard times came for the renters....rarely got the money on time, but it always felt good when they'd catch up.

I just heard that Rita has been downgraded to a Category 3 hurricane. And will probably be a Cat 2 when it goes ashore. Which is the best news in a while. If it happens, of course. But any hurricane is serious in that part of the coast because the elevation is so low. Beaumont is below sea level.

> Lentilla, I lived through the first eruption in 80...volcanoes don't bother me near as much as the idea of a tornado bearing water does!
True enough... But at least you can float in water!
> I know people that shave their legs *every day*
Yup. That would be me. Hirsute would be an unkind, yet accurate description. I've decided in order to be truly happy, I need to have my entire body lasered. Except for the hair on top of my head (eyebrows, eyelashes, etc.)
There was some speculation that Rita would head north and hover over the D/FW area for a while; now it looks like it will veer off to the east. Well, we'll see. We could use the rain, but not that much at one time.

Well, the interview went fast--only five questions:
Have you ever had safety training in the workplace?
How is your attendance at work?
Have you ever had a conflict in the workplace--and how was it settled?
Do you have flexible hours for schedule changes?
Have you ever had to deal with an unhappy customer and what did you do?
I've been going through tests, paperwork and various orientations for this job since January--it's with the U.S. Postal Service. I'm slowly moving up in the ranks of eligible applicants. I should know by the end of Monday whether or not I got the job. I'm totally inside!

*WM gathers up the loose programs back into the cartons while Matina Chloe hoovers up all the label backings. Sort (WM's 'bot) appears at the patio door with a levitating pallet. The cartons get stacked onto the pallet and Sort takes them off to be delivered to the kitchen tour.*
I just heard that the tour is very nearly, if not literally sold out. Imagine 700 people traipsing through your kitchen, nibbling on hors d'oeurves as they go!
Thanks again for all of the good wishes and gifts, all.

You didn't mention anything about firearms, did you, FG?

Ooh I don't mind DC's really, sometimes I'm the best one to do them. I Just object to having to do them when I don't really understand what's going on, or happen to disagree with the decsion that's made.

I limited myself to mentioning the gang-related knife fight that I started last month over the last cinnamon bun in the break room, Witty.

This has not been a stellar day.
Work was work. Busy, but it went by quickly (after a 2 hour meeting to start the day). I went to the bank to withdraw the funds for my car purchase and then picked up my new car. I drove it home where the roomies wanted to go to dinner. We go to dinner and then decide to go look at their new house being built to review the progress. We start heading to the building site and a few miles from my apartment the serpentine belt lets go. Major bummer. Had to get it towed to my place and I will have to start pricing mechanics who specialise in European vehicles. Most USian mechanics don't know much about Saab.
