B - That explained things rather well.
I'm now going out to buy a new . The left click on this one won't click unless I bash it with my fist

That's a rather important click to have sans fist bashing, so best of luck in your pursuit of computerized rodentia.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.") Posted Sep 23, 2005
Thanks for that article B!

Yeah, right. When you whistle nonchalantly, I tend to look for the nearest bomb shelter.
Witty, a thousand pardons for missing your birthday...here, have some really really good !
Today's a very long day...our intro lecture (and since the professor is out of town, guess who's doing it...yep, me), then work at the bookstore for 3 hours (not so happy about that) and then pour beer for 3 hours (yeah! a sorta pub...but only for grad students...sorry Courtesy!) and then mingle with folks. Good thing I'm not on the clean up crew, that's all I can say.
And then tomorrow, I have sort of a date thing with a friend of a friend who's of all things, a commercial pilot. And me hating to fly. Could be interesting.

That's annoying about the ancesteral Brass Bed B, it is a lovely item of furnatiure, though I agree about not being terribly functional. I would offer to adopt it as a spare bed, but I'm not really in the family so I don't think it would be really appropriate.
Tweezers are useful.
I do hope that B4's ok.
I've got two Difficult Conversations to have with people's families today. Not my favourite part of the job, but there's no one else to do it.
Better get back to some paperwork before I get ed!

All of my tours for the week are now completed, so I'm sitting in my office consuming caffeine and wondering where all the students came from. I am rather glad that we don't have the TV on - I will catch up with storm news in the bulletin tonight.
I have a rehearsal tonight, so ought to be lubricating my vocal cords with either honey or alcohol, really. The tenors have to hold a top B-flat which is about as high as I go under normal circumstances, and I suspect is out of the range of some of my fellow tenors, given the decrease in volume when we get there!

DAvid, you might want to check out www.overduemedia.com for my current favourite webcomic about libraries.

I think are naturally conditioned to run fast - the constant fear of losing an arm, leg, eye or a beloved pet parrot will do that to a person.

Does anyone else have "Lovely Rita, Meter Maid" stuck in their head? Terrible and tasteless, I know, but I can't help it.
I have a job interview at lunch today . It is A Very Imporant Chance for me. Everyone wish me !

MArv, thanks for the overduemedia link. That's fab!
A print comic called 'Rex Libris' came out this week, which begins the tale of the true role that librarians have in Earth society. Very silly. It even features a character named...Hypatia!

FG!
You're going to be fabulous! They must be able to see how fabulous you're going to be.
Mr Surgeon has kindly spoken to the families which is good, the bad thing is that he's supposed to be on nights tonight, but has been here all day doing work. I've told him to go home but he says that he likes work.

Z, sad conversations with families would definitely be a down side to medicine. I'm glad you didn't have to do it.
Ben, the bed is lovely. Can you store it broken down until you find an appropriate home for it?

with the lunch thang, FG. You're most obviously the best person for the job - tell them we all said so.
Difficult conversations. Hmm. Does it ever get any easier for those who have to the impart bad news? It's a conversation which will never be forgotten by the recipients
I had to have a difficult conversation myself this week - obviously not in the same league as Z's type of DC - but not easy. It involved a rather nice looking young man whose lifestyle choices are very likely to render him edentulous within the next 15 years. At least he's got a hope of turning the situation round.
How are those on the Salonista Sick List this week? Gentle s for Sol and Sir Marv - and anyone else who needs one.
David - I'm trying to stop myself from thinking of the most obvious solution to the high notes problem
As usual, I've given in and lowered the tone

I am really fine. Mostly I am nervous about the results of the tests. But even if they come back ugly the offending skin is gone.
I am fairly pragmatic when it comes to cancer. It will happen or it won't. There is little I can do about it at this point.

Gasoline prices are jumping again. The station nearest my house has raised the price three times since yesterday noontime.
A local college participates every year in a national contest where they design solar powered vehicles and solar panels for buildings. They won a few years back. Anyway, I think we should be encouraging this sort of thing more. If anything good can come out of this awful series of hurricanes, perhaps it will be renewed interest in alternative energy sources.

Mrs Zen Posted Sep 23, 2005
I think that's a wise approach, Marv.
FG.
I've got the structural report on the house today. I ama just reminding myself that *all* structural surveys put you off completely. The conversation with the surveyer was pretty up-beat, but the survey itself says that there is quite a bit to do. For complex reasons I'm going to have a lot less cash than I'd hoped for, which means that I won't be able to have the work done so soon.
I had more to say, but I cannot remember what it was.
