Hi Tartaronne.
Taking a quick break in housework. First chance to get to it in too long while, probably the last chance for a while too.

Safe haven.
I think that's what the Salon has become to a lot of h2g2 researchers, especially lately.
A safe haven.
Thank you Lil, for keeping it going all this time

Flashback memory including Tartaronne - walking in the Old City of Stockholm and stopping on a bridge to see what people were staring at.
A live otter, clearly enjoing itself rolling around in the snow, oblivious of all the people staring at it. In the middle of the capital of Sweden. Right, No big deal. At all. From an otter point of view, obvoiusly.

Hello, Tataronne. Though I'm not sure we've met before.
I've pretty much kept off Facebook. There's just ... Things I Don't Like there, I suppose.

Tartaronne, good to see you again...
I'm thinking that a 10 day house sitting gig is possibly too long -- my cat has taken to meowing plaintively and following me around the house. And I start another gig on Tuesday, for 3 days...poor little Missy. Summer is my busy time for this, and I need the money, so I've got to find a way to make her feel less anxious. If anyone has any suggestions, much appreciation for any help.

for the welcome back.
Yar, no I don't think I've had the pleasure.
The otter, Ti, I've almost forgot. And I remember the design shop with the I bought for Hati - and the photo exhibition about obesity. And many other sights and actions. We did pack a lot of events into a short mini-meet.
News from Denmark: My mother has settled in a small flat in a nursing home and I've been interviewed to a magazine about how it is to be parent to your parent. I'll have a look if the article is featured on the internet.
AND my grandson has just invited me for his nine years birthday. Sig. S. has this month retired on what we call pre-pension. He is enjoying it so far.

Yay!!! Tartaronne is back!
Well done, Eats! You are an inspiration to us all.
Best of luck with the move, Witty. Moving is one of my least favorite things to do.
I am using the tornado as the impetus to clean out my house and get rid of things I haven't used for ages. I know several families who were completely wiped out. This evening I'm giving a lot of dishes and a dining table and chairs to one family. I need to go through Mother's house and box up a lot of stuff, but I know she'd throw a fit.

Welcome back to the salon, tartaronne!
If the BC's (Bearded Cousins) took your mother away for the day and you cleared stuff out in her absence, would she notice when she got back?
That sleep-interruption thing Yar mentioned: what happens with me is, I wake up at, say, 5 am, and I feel rested, like I could get up right then and strangle the mockingbird who woke me up with his heroic arias. But no, I decide to rearrange the legs and settle in for a couple more hours in a different position... and then I wake up again 2 hours later and feel too tired to get up.
I blame 2legs.
So yesterday after dinner I opened the front door to admit a cat, and paused when I heard an odd staccato noise. Over and over, at irregular intervals. And then what should stroll unconcernedly out of my courtyard gate (which faces my front door about 10 feet away) but a wild turkey! It was clucking. It was being followed at a very respectful distance by Squeaky Joe, who will never see a bigger bird in his life. It wandered around back and forth in front of my house, pecking at the ground and clucking to itself, and apparently hung around all night, because I heard it this morning.

I wonder if that turkey is a distant cousin of a certain chicken? One that wandered into the yard of Batty some years ago, and adopted her gardens as a home for a year or two (IIRC)

I want to know when mocking birds sleep. The one who lives outside my house vocalized all day yesterday and kept on going all night, too.

Would love to see the cats reactions to the turkey! The "Now how do I.......?" look on their faces
Hyp, my inspiration throughout was kelli. Both in watching what I eat and starting in on fitness stuff too. The biggest change was cutting out the snacks and not eating after dinner at night. Working out of doors this last week has "wakened" me up too. I get up in the morning and really feel ready to face the day. It's been a long time since I felt that.
Ooops, and a big HI! to Tartaronne.

Mockingbirds? Oh bah, try having a nightingale in your immediate neighbourhood!
Because of my allergy, I keep all windows shut during summer and that bird *still* wakes me up during the darkest hours! Not sure how such a small bird manages to sing at such a volume...

Probably using a megaphone, come to think of it. And the nightingale also likes to keep the performance going for a couple of hours.
So, I can't go to bed too early in the evening during summer, because my flat will be too hot.
Can't sleep until late on w*rk days - and besides, the morning sun tends to heat up my bedroom pretty early anyway.
So the nightingale usually sings roughly between 2 am and 4 am. Right, during the coolest hours.
Second most annoying bird? Woodpecker. But at least that's during daytime.
