Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted May 3, 2010
Morning all... well, it's still morning in my head. Stayed up 'til 3am playing Morrowind and so slept in very late.

Bank holiday today, but we don't automatically get bank holidays, just the extra days annual leave that we can take when we want, and I was too embarrassed to take the day off because no one else is. On the plus side no one has scheduled any meetings etc..
I was at a friends wedding on Saturday, and then busy on Sunday, so am quite tired today.

I'll catch up on the backlog later today. It was a busy weekend. These photos show most of it. None up yet of the kids corner and the entry wasn't finished yet in these. We've added prints of Rivera on one wall and Kahlo on the other. But it gives you a pretty good look around.

Another great looking exhibition Hyp. I never really 'got' Frida Kahlo. Just a philistine at heart I guess .

Where did you get all the exhibits from Hypatia? It seems as if you are getting very good at asking people to dig deep in their attics. I hope your library district appreciate what they've got in you.

In a morning newspaper today: three seasons simultaneously in Sweden
In the very south summer (with temperatures above +20ºC/68ºF), in the very north winter (still cold and lots of snow), and then spring inbetween.
It's at times like these that I'm reminded what a very looooong country Sweden is nort to south. From Stockholm to the northern border is just as far as to the northern border of Italy if you were to travel south.

Oh, I've got another interview. That's two in the pipe-line. Neither of them are with my first-choice organisations, but though I'm not yet at the stage where I am a beggar, I'm not entirely a chooser either. The economy worries me.

Hyp, your community is very lucky to have you there.

Ah shucks, folks.
Ben, the quilt I'm using as a wall hanging and one shelf of the display case that has the amate bark paintings hanging over it belong to a board member. He brought in the trinket boxes, the rag doll and three coconut masks. Everything else in the room is mine. I have a modest collection of Mexican folk art. I started collecting it in 1972, on my honeymoon. The sisters who were going to loan us the Rivera sketch backed out. The art is all reproductions except for the three tribute paintings done for me by the high school art club.
Hope the interviews go well.

Snow on the mountains up North. Guess winter hasn't quite left us yet. Very cool breeze which chills as soon as you move out of the sunshine.
That's good going with the interviews Ben. It certainly pays to keep your options open just now. Especially when all hell will break loose financially next week after this election.

Fortunately, my part of the world doesn't get snow this late in the season.
Are you in the Highlands, Eats? Guess I should pay closer attention. You're probably said.

Quite
I could have done with the nice horsey pulling its hoof out three months earlier. However, all we can do is all we can do.

I didn't fly my kite in the end. It was too windy! One of the lines got all tangled up on itself and there was no way I would have unknitted it on the beach.
Mags, we went out to Cleethorpes to fly. MC has a single line kite that was able to be flown but it was very hard work bringing it back down to earth.

Mistake today:
Driving to work with a bad head cold that impaired my thinking skills. Going to work by train involves a 1.8 mile walk at the other end of a half hour train journey. Driving to work on a good day is about half an hour.
During the week it's much quicker to take the train. But being a bank holiday I thought there wouldn't be much traffic, and the trains weren't that regular either. But haven't really driven in central Edinburgh.. It would have been far quicker and easier to walk to the station. I nearly ended up over the Forth Road Bridge but a nice person let me into the lane Ben will know how far away that is from the way home.
I can now manage the 1.8 miles in 20 minutes with practice anyway.

Hyp, if you Google Cummingston, you'll find us on the Moray coast. Google Earth manages to spell it Cummingstown, which is wrong. Technically I guess we sit north of the Grampians, but East of the Highlands. I tinkered with the Wikipedia comment for it many moons ago.
Lovely evening, but still a chill.
Dr Z, I take my hat off to anyone that commutes to the middle of Edinburgh. The place is a nightmare to drive around. It will be interesting to see what effect the trams have once they get going. Was very anti them, as the enormous cost could have made a huge chunk of the dangerous A9 dual-carriageway.

Even walking in the middle of Edinburgh is a challenge when the tourist season is on.
Beautiful exhibit, Hypatia!

That reminds me, I must sort out my degree nonsense so that I can apply for the Edinburgh Fringe job. No pay, but bed and half-board, plus free tickets to plenty of shows and a rollicking time being a techie and doing very speedy changeovers between the shows. And a week of very long days and very hard work turning St Augustine's church, in Edinburgh centre, into four theatres. Marvellous fun, but I need to know what I'm doing with my course first.
Key: Complain about this post
