I hope they'll get poor with the electricity bill. What a terrible waste of resources.

Colour me vulgar, but I thought that was rather fun.
I also thought it was an animation - minimal ambient light, no lights on in that house or its neighbours, no street lamps, new fallen snow, an audio track that was added rather than recorded...
I liked it when the roof appeared to dance up and down though.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.") Posted Dec 11, 2009
Couldn't view it from my phone. Will try and remember to look at home.

Another friend of mine mentioned the cost, plus, "not to mention the inrush current when everything goes on and off in rapid succession. "
But I'm assuming that if the person who designed and set this display up is knowledgeable, then there must be some formidable equipment in the garage!
Christmas light competitions are common in these parts, B'El -- yeah, high use of electric resources, but also a sort of gift to passers-by, when done well.

It's always rather bothered me that universities and grade/high schools can't seem to converse about breaks. It took a herculean effort for the University of Montana and the local school district to finally sit down and schedule their spring break at the same timeÉbut once they did, it was lovely. Currently, the HS I teach at has their break 2 weeks after the community college for which I teach. Which means, yet again, that I will not be getting a spring break.
GRR.
Ah well. Life happens.

Yes, it looks nice couldn't get the video to work, so just saw the photo), but I think it is irresponsible to use so many resources.

Thanks to everyone who sent kind thoughts about Annie. Se was 2 months shy of 14, but until very recently she was the picture of health. And little dogs have longer lifespans than bigger ones. She had started coughing a bit when she first came inside after running around in the yard. Then she'd be fine.
Wednesday evening I put her outside after I got home from work and got busy doing other things. She usually barked when she wanted back in, so I didn't worry about her. She was outside for at least an hour. Syn came over and missed her immediately and went out to get her. She was breathing a bit hard, but we thought when she warmed up, she'd be fine.
Her breathing got worse instead of better, so I called my vet. He was out of town and told me he couldn't get back until 9:00, but he'd meet me at the clinc then. This was about 7:10. She had a heart attack about 8:00 and died a few minutes later. So, at 5 o'clock I had a happy, frisky dog and at 8 o'clock she was gone. And I feel even worse because I know I should have checked on her and brought her back inside. I was busy and forgot all about her.
Sorry I missed the birthdays. Best belated wishes to Mags and d'E. I hope you both had fun days.
Hey MC. It's great to have you posting here.
Guess I'm Ozarks tacky, but I think that lighting display is .

I know it's really tough when it happens - but going like that within three hours is so much preferable to weeks and months of wasting away.
Actually, if I could order my leaving this world (to become a cat with a good family in the next; been planned for long ), I'd order just that...

I'm picturing the color of vulgar as magenta, strangely.

I'd go with fuchsia, personally, but magenta is close.

Did you know that Magenta was named by the French chemist who discovered it in honor of Napoleon III, who won the battle of Magenta in 1859? That, technically speaking, there was no color magenta before then?

I phrased that poorly: the color magenta wasn't discovered, it was the chemical that was generated, that could be used in dyes and pigments to make the color.

I did not know that, Lil. I wonder if the fashion of the time reflected magenta's creation, if magenta-colored dresses were the latest in Paris fashion. Wasn't a dark green dye created for or named after Prussia's empress around the same time?

Really sorry to hear that about Annie Hyp **.
I work with some excellent doctors who are also mothers, in fact my current boss has four (4) children, and so does one of our senior registrars. I also know some doctors who are struggling to combine parenting with medicine, but it takes a while I suppose.

Split feelings about the light show - yes, it was very cool but, as already mentioned, what a waste of electricity.
Just back from a rather different w*rk Christmas dinner. Instead of the traditional julbord (a Christmassy variety of smörgåsbord) we dined onboard a Thai Boat.
I had Tom Kha Gai for starters (chicken in coconut milk soup with lemongrass and lime leaves) and Khao Phad Moo for main dish (fried rice with pork).
Chopped chili was served separately in a little bowl with both dishes so that you could add as little or much as you wanted.
The food was delicious but left me with no room for dessert.
I tried both Singha and Chan . I think I liked the Singha better.
