I'll stick with Obscure Canadian, thanks. Diogenes is cavorting in the grass with rb and me at http://www.h2g2.com/F40374?thread=69810&post=520485 which is a surreal thread at the Municipal Park. Bless Odra, she always reads backlog, so you can safely leave notes for her. Lesson 3, Valis: Topic Drift. It is a perfectly acceptable thing to do, to change the subject, to blurt what just came to your mind, as it were, as long as it's "continuitous". If another researcher has something to say about the previous or last but one topic, he/she will go ahead and say it. So you don't have to post separately to me if something comes up in conversation here. You just butt in and say "What MST3K, where?" or whatever you want to say. You don't have to make new threads every time, either; as you're probably just beginning to notice, a thread that has had a message posted to it pops to the top of your forum list like a cork. My cyber-nephew and I run "message threads" where we share news, and we just pile unrelated post on top of unrelated post until the thread gets too long to load. When you were at my page most recently, you might have noticed a thread with an incrfedibly lon title -- nephew at work.... No remonstrance intended here, just thought you'd like some insider tips. And now I have to fetch the URL of the MST3K ripoff in question. Hang on... *Lil's image ripples and fades as she splits off to the banquet* Oh yes, and this post has taken several minutes to write which means a whole conversation has continued while I'm in cgi-limbo. But it's OK.

*Odra, who, though blessed as she may be, just read that little note in the backlog, cringes slightly and hopes that multiple existence applies to researcher's pets as well as researchers...*

What do you call backlog that happens afterwards?

What do you call backlog that happens afterwards?

Why, "forelog", naturally...

It seems kind of like a contradiction in terms; butt in when you feel like it, but don't butt in to change the topic. Do butt in to change the topic, but don't as to not snake anybody else, What if the forum is stagnant?

Witty Moniker

I've seen entities become quite indignant when a 'dead' thread receives a post.

My advice to you is to get a crystal ball. And ~always~ keep up on your backlogs. smiley - smiley

It depends on the thread, eh?

Poor Valis, we make it sound like a minefield, and it isn't. I saw you using you imagination to excellent effect at the cafe last night, you'll be fine.

On the other hand, if you had a post to that Thread That Will Not Die, I shall dope-slap you. I speak of none other than the thread entitled "Where Are Our h2g2 Researchers From?" which is nearly as old as me and must have a gazillion posts on it. Like flies on a coil of flypaper, innocent new researchers add their hometown and immediately the dreaded ancient thread stirs in the dust, reconstitutes itself and appears at the top of the forum lists of 10,000 hapless researchers... *begins to twitch and foam at mouth*

Just have fun with it, Val. But don't torch any forests...bad thing to do...*grins reminiscently*

Maybe I should change my name to: the patron saint of that which sits on the fine line between normality and the normalities that seem apropriate to this moment in time in the world as we know it.

*has seen that Styx is online and she hasn't put food out* Val, that name has too many characters. But by all means, have fun with parentheses. As you can see, we all do. *gets out more ham and cornbread and puts it in a bowl on the counter* He's learned to drink from the faucet, so I'll just leave bowls down for Mindspring and Dio. Oh, and Val, http://www.h2g2.com/F49946?thread=68143 post #717. You've noticed that all the posts are numbered in the upper right corner and that the LED's are in blocks of 20? Say, are you in goo or alabaster or does that question makes no sense?
