from a uk point of view re the Ownership of Guns, I used to go target shooting many years ago and was well upset, with the change of law, given that once upon a time the entire country had to spend x amount of time, practicing with the, most up to date weapon of the time the long bow. Think it would stop a fair few burglaries if those who commit these crime felt there was a chance they might face a loaded weapon, as in many cases its "teenagers" looking for a fast buck, on the spur of the moment.
Can't see that the wrongful death by firearms has fallen that much since the change, but knife crime has gone up a fair bit, suspect in a lot of cases where a gun is shown it is likely to be unloaded so will not be as lethal as a knife, which needs no ammunition.
Yes you will always get a small hardcore of criminals or misguided souls that think having a weapon makes them hard or indestructible, but every culture and eon has had its "outlaws" its part of our species.

Actually, Kerr, the actor playing Chekhov is Russian. Or at least Russian born and a native Russian speaker (we caught him on a Russian film review programme recently).
Which raises the intrieging question of whether we are so used to Hollywood Russian accents that a real one sounds odd or, and I like this theory much better, he's bilingual and forced to put on a really bad accent. I *must* go and see the film now.
Woohoo on the job front Ag! Quite right too. Don't worry about me. In the grand scheme of things I'd much rather have the Star and in any case I am beginning to suspect that the whole PGCE thing was a mistake anyway. So the only bad thing about my situation is a) the waste of time and b) that B was right. Always very galling, and an all too frequent occurrance I find.
Sympathies for Witty, David B et al, mind you.
GDZ: It's so cool you are both nearly there! Have a fab couple of days and an even fabber honeymoon.
Marv: nothing wrong with Vegas weddings. Best Friend got married in Vegas and it was a blast. Although if it had been me, it would so have been offciated by Elvis.
Can't remember if anyone addressed the Stretcher question, ut here's a link to the latest round:

Right, must go. I've discovered the Star likes Children's TV, which is an awful temptation, but which has not stopped him pulling off the CD drawer cover that he was making inroads into when Mini, Ben and Z were here...

Wow! What a fantastic idea! I might head through the archives and see if I can use the ideas for starting points of my own too.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky. Posted May 15, 2009
Very wet here this morning - my sump pump has gone off several times while I caught up with backlog.
Bizzarre inhuries? I once burnt my foot with a cup of Earl Grey tea. Does that count?
tomorrow, GDZ, may the weather be clement and the wedding free of any hitches.

He's putting on a really bad one - according to an interview in SFX, he was asked to match Konieg's accent, which obviously is nothing like a 'proper' Russian accent - for instance one of Chekov's most recognisable speech tics is pronouncing 'V's as 'W's. Which real Russians do not do, there's no reason why a Russian can't make a hard V sound (personally I've often wondered if Konieg got his Russian and Chinese sterotypes mixed up when he came up with that).
The trouble is the new boy goes past matching it and comes out the other side.
I once put a garden fork straight through my foot, will that do? Actually, if we start listing my injuries we'll be a) here all day and b) very bored. We are talking avout the person who once managed five trips to A&E in a week.

Oh, Russian's do pronounce Vs as Ws and vice versa. It depends where it is in a sentence/ word and what other sounds follow it. And their V is often a bit softer than ours anyway. So you get Smirnoff, not Smirnov (it's written with a V in Russian, but does sound softer than we would pronounce it with a V) and B saying 'The vurms in the williage'.
On the other hand words like Vladimir and Vladisav are as you would expect.
Still, I am prepared to believe that the original Chekhov's accent was odd and that this chap's is odder. It's just really funny if it is, given his background.
B was certainly a bit horrified at Illya Kuriyakin's accent recently. Mind you, he thinks the meercat dot com advert is a German accent.

"Oh, Russian's do pronounce Vs as Ws and vice versa."
Yes - but Chekov *never* pronounces a V at all, he always replaces it with a W, which makes him sound like he's got a particularly specific lisp.

Err, isn't it?

I don't know where that particular meercat comes from but he's in one of the few telly adverts I can bear to watch.
We enjoyed the meercats at London Zoo on Hyp's birthday
One of them was dutifully, and archetypically, on guard duty while the kittens played.
Exciting stuff, GDZ. Have a great day tomorrow - and every happiness for the future.
Somehow, I've landed myself with having to stay in all day to take a delivery for my neighbour.
In principle, I don't mind this at all; we often do each other favours and, at the moment, I owe her big time. However, it turns out that the delivery is actually for her unemployed son - who's just decided to go off windsurfing for the day.
Normally, I wouldn't be ranty about such a thing - but I really need to leave the house and get a prescription collected and filled ... ABs for a nasty dose of cystitis, which is probably more information than you needed to read.
Bu**eryBo**ox
And while I'm in full rant mode ... someone woke me early this morning by pounding on the door and ringing the bell. She'd been told that the dog on the end of the rope she was holding was mine.
It belongs to someone with a similar address, whose mail, pizzas and curries often get delivered here - and who are stupidly careless about emphasising their exact address.
I now return you to normal programming - and am going for a cup of tea and a wee lie down.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted May 15, 2009
Those would be the meercats that were nothing, in t'Boy's oppinion, compared to a bloke with a hose
How annoying Teuchter, both the dog and the son who could have waited for his own delivery.
Not sure I can bring myself to watch Star Trek, Sylar as Spock will be too confusing...

Teuchter Posted May 15, 2009
The son has just been at my door to say he's now not going windsurfing - as there's not enough wind.
Hah. If he'd been here a few minutes ago, there'd have been plenty hot air.
Methinks I really, really need to find a job and stop getting myself annoyed about petty things.

Seems like your buttery botox laden rant was worth it then in venting the steam coming from your ears without blowing the top of your head off Teuchter.
Kelli, that is a thought that has gone through my head many times also. I do think we'll go and see it though.
