I love the way one Republican characterized DeLay's pressure on his party to overturn the sleazy new rule: as proof of his leadership skills. Hardy har har. Tell me another one.

And tomorrow I intend to be watching CSpan and the meeting of Congress as Electoral College. We know that a group of congressmen will be formally protesting the results, specifically in Ohio but also New Mexico. Will a senator join the protest and stop the electoral voting? I would miss a day of work if I had to go to an office, to see this.

looks like Kerry might, but the Repubs will blow him off as bitter for losing. They really need someone like McCain to step up.
On the other hand, the Repubs can't seem to get enough of Obama. Apparently, they lined up to have their picture taken with the very junior senator!

Honestly, though- is anyone really surprised?
How long do you think it will be before the "all volunteer" force needs a draft?

Kerry is not in the US; he went on a fact-finding tour in Iraq for 15 days. This is fairly normal practise, if you're in Congress and you lose the Big One. Repubs would also jump all over him if he were the one to protest. Think about it.

Re: Electoral Challenge.
" White House spokesman Scott McClellan dismissed the move as politically driven.
"I think the American people expect members of Congress to work together and move forward on the real priorities facing this country, instead of engaging in conspiracy theories and rehashing issues that were settled long ago," McClellan said. "
We all know that that is what congresscritters are supposed to do but, I think the public expects more political backbiting and greed more than anything.

I chose to watch the House debate, which gave me a good opportunity to sample the debate style and intellectual weight of many congresspersons. There was a stout caucasian male from Florida who made me rather angry (Michael Moore is a traitor, therefore all Democrats who disagree with Preznit Clinton are traitors), but I generally remained in a civilized frame of mind... until Tom DeLay stood up, at the end, and accused the Democratic Part of everything but stealing Dubya's apple pie off the windowsill. What a sonorous a**hole!!
Basically, those Democrats who stood to challenge Ohio were at pains to say they were challenging the process, not the result. But almost all Republicans who opposed the challenge accused the challengers of being sore losers. They. Did. Not. Get. It.

Oh, they got it. It's just that because the system is working toward their advantage right now that they pretend there is nothing wrong with the system. If the election had swung the other way, the Dems would be doing the exact same thing.
