A fellow just came in the door filming as he came. Never stopped, from when I asked him to close the door to when I sold him the tickets, or anything. I guess he'll wait till he gets home to actually have the experience of being here.

I love those people, Lil. One of them ran smack into me and knocked me down at Disneyland a couple of months ago, and it just blew me away. I suppose if I'd been more exotic, and swore at him in something other than english, he might have filmed me, as well!

Years ago, I was walking through Florence (I lived there at the time, blasé blasé) and got stuck behind a tour. Every time, EVERY SINGLE TIME, the guide said 'and if you look over there, you'll see the famous whatever-it-was-that-time, Baptistry doors, Bell-tower of Giotto, etc.' the entire group of a dozen people would LOOK AT THEIR GUIDE BOOKS. Not at the tower, at the DESCRIPTION of the tower. And not one of them would actually look at the monument, they'd just read their paragraph and shuffle on to the next designated information assimilation location.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Mar 2, 2008
Made the spring trip to the Living History Fair yesterday... spent lots of money as usual. Got the hood and late C15th joined hosen (basically Medieval trousers with a codpiece) I ordered at the autumn fair... the hood is half black, half "Dairy Milk" purple and very comfy. The hosen are nice too, lovely soft wool and while quite close fitting are easy to move in. According to Mrs. D they do favourable things to certain bits of my anatomy.
Also got a pack of C18th-style playing cards for no better reason than they'll look better when playing cards at LARP events than the plasticy modern ones do.
Oh, I'm now also the owner of the longest sash ever... it goes around me three times (and as those of you who have met me will attest, I'm not exactly the skinniest bloke in the world).
Mrs. D got some gingerbread men made to period recipies and a sort of mini hand loom thing called a heddle (I think) for making flat braid.

Mornin All
Winter's back, not that it had strayed very far, cold and crisp with snow showers not so many miles away.
The and I had a little adventure on Friday evening. We got the car stuck in the field we had been training in. Talk about embarassed, supposed to know about the countryside etc. Had to call the rescue team out from the pub to tow us out

Sounds like you and Mrs D had fun at the event Mr D
It's not winter round here. The snake pass is still open. OK so it only reopened a couple of weeks back after damage to the road caused by a landslip (all the rain I guess) rather than closed due to snow.

I shall have to pay more attention to tourist groups in Canterbury from now on to see whether they look at the city walls and so on or at the description of them. Or film them.
I've got the week off work to try to relax before the performances of My Fair Lady in the evenings. We open tomorrow.

Oh and, yes, I did feel the earthquake this week. But that could be because I was still awake, having been sitting with someone to make sure they didn't lose consciousness for much of the evening. And I was on the second floor. In an old house. It was mildly alarming until I realised it was an earthquake, and I thought the extent of media coverage was absurd!

We get minor tremors a half dozen times a year. It's rare to measure any more than perhaps 3.5 or so ... Usually, they just feel like a small fleet of transport trucks rumbling past.

I just saw that jaw-dropping footage of a passenger jet trying to land at Hamburg in the wind and snow, scraping its wings on the runway as it was swept sideways.
We have heavy snow here. I'm expecting that the Monument will open two hours late.

In Window Rock. Came in last night around 8pm, and made a conveniences store run around 10pm, both times it was cloudy, windy, and horribly cold. But not snowing. This morning, I stepped out, and my feet crunched on fresh powder. My car was covered in snow. The stunning red rock formation across the street was capped with snow. And now the sky is cloudless. I want to be clear that I don't mean "there are very few clouds" or "there are almost no clouds" or "there is just that one little cloud." The sky is baby blue with not a trace of cloud anywhere to be seen. Just blue for miles.

Irv, that's a lovely view to see. Window Rock is pretty without snow...I can just imagine how breathtaking it would be freshly powdered.

It was. Of course, due to the cloudless nature of the sky, it's all gone now.

It just stopped snowing -- I reckon we had between 3 and 4 inches -- and I can see patches of blue sky. On the other hand, the wind is picking up.
I started work on time, but several rangers and receptionists haven't shown up yet, about one and a half hours into the day, so conditions must still be fierce elsewhere.
It'll be a quiet day. Just me, the wood stove, the electric kettle, the laptop...

No snow here in SE Englandshire but we have had blue skies for much of the day.
I managed to spend a few hours in the garden, cutting back and tidying up after the winter.
There is snow forecast for much of the country but it's unlikely to amount to much here.
