Yup difference being one is food for family the other, for profits..got nothing against hunting for the table..that is the way of all animals..No animal other than man hunts to sell...
exercising to lose weight heard was counter productive, in some over weight people I half heard today I think as the body stores extra for a while to try and counter balance the change in body motion/clock/ thingy
Been lucky my self can eat what I want when I want, of the opinion we on the whole eat to much any way, often will go a couple of days with out eating...then eating a whole leg of lamb over the course of a evening..rarely eat veggies with a meal, or three meals a day...seems to have done me no harm...

I meant to say a difference between traditional whaling and industrial/commercial whaling. It looks like I was understood, though

That can happen, but so can a mild slowing of metabolism when cutting calories. The key part is the "for a while." *Regular* exercise, as opposed to just heading to the gym twice and then forgetting about it for a while, can increase your metabolism in the long run, allowing you to burn more calories while sleeping or sitting than you had before, as well.
On the basic math level, even if your body slows down it's metabolism to store a little more at first, if the amount of energy (in the form of food) coming in is less than the amount going out (in terms of activities and exercise) then you're going to end up losing some weight.
And if anything I've just said is wrong, please don't tell me, as my diet and exercise routine has worked for 2 months now, and I don't want my body getting any funny ideas!

I am finally, after a painfully slow and prolonged start, beginning to lose a little weight and get a little trimmer. And not in the least by dieting - I eat reasonably in the first place, but have the metabolism of a dead sloth. Exercising at least three times a week, preferably five, is working. Four months it took me to notice a difference, but my entire metabolism has finally speeded up a little. I am currently at that infuriating stage where none of my clothes fit properly and I'm STILL fat. But I tell myself, I'm doing this for my health, not my looks, and my health doesn't care what size trousers I am wearing.
The problem with diets is as soon as you stop, you balloon, which is very bad for the old insulin resistance. And staying on a DIET for the rest of your life is just so heart-rendingly grim. So I am a great fan of eat broccoli, go for a walk. Rinse. Repeat. It's just, more, well, doable.

I went on a diet nine years ago, and apart from minor collisions with real life, have stayed on that diet. What I've found is that my metabolism must be extremely efficient, because even at 1200 calories a day, it's very difficult for me to lose weight. My bout with bronchitis last week left me with very little appetite, and I managed to lose three pounds through just not eating... but two of those pounds are back today. Very frustrating. I'm beginning to wonder if there's something wrong with my thyroid. Or maybe it's just that I've been on a diet for nine years, and my metabolism has gone into high efficiency.
Of course, what they're saying now is that regular exercise and activity lead to a longer lifespan, whether you're at the proper BMI or not. So I guess I shouldn't worry about it and keep exercising!

I've been known to weigh myself at different times of the day and get results that differ by as much as 1 or 2 pounds.
Not sure what I'll do when I reach my goal weight, as I've never stuck with a diet that long before. I tell myself that I'm at least going to keep counting calories, working out, and weighing myself regularly *after* I lose the weight for as long as it took me to lose the weight in the first place. Hopefully I'll develop some good habits, and not balloon back up.

Mornin All
A clear and crisp dawn way out West here. All light blues with just a tinge of yellow.
I support Sea Shepherd when it comes to whaling. They get stuck in to various culling bodies unlike prissy Greenpiece. This year, so far, they have disruped the totally nonsensical Japanese whale hunting. Imagine killing these beautiful fellow residents of Earth to make pet food. bit early for a rant but when it comes to whales and Japanese whalers don't get in my way.

I can't help hoping that whales evolve to a point where they can avenge themselves against the human race.
As it is, I suspect they'll have the last laugh anyway as we poison ourselves out of existence - assuming we don't completely wreck their environment too.
Weight loss?
*sigh
I spent most of my life being underweight - and am now about 20lbs heavier than I should be.
The steroids are partly to blame, as are greed and sloth, but I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place as even moderate exercise is causing me joint problems.
Bu**er.

I should exercise more than I do and I should lose a bit of weight.
So who felt the earthquake last night. I didn't.

Makes up a miserable trio. I've got to shed loads of avoirdupois because of the arthritis in my hips. I'm targetting a pound a week but it's a struggle. I feel a repsonsibility towards my local micro brewery to maintain consumption and to the French to stop their lake overflowing.

It's possible some tremors passed us on their way to Southampton but I slept so soundly that I felt nothing.
My intake of is greatly curtailed at the moment because of my meds
I'm not actually supposed to be partaking at all - but treat myself to a small Tanqueray & Slimline a couple of times a week.
Last night I just had the tonic and ice. It wasn't the same
Hope the sinus problme is easing, Hyp

I wonder about a number of salonistas who are not heard from lately, like Wilma. Was ox caught up in the big Florida blackout? Will eatsmice be back? Is Peripatetic Warrior Monk safe with his family? Will Amy Ant be back? Where has Greydesk got to? Etc.

Speaking as someone who is frequently out of touch for long periods of time, my guess is that they'll be back. *sends out good wishes for all missing Salonistas*
