Sometimes you've just got to wait and see what a baby looks like to know what his name should be.

I am still sitting here in my dressing gown - at 1 o'clock in the afternoon - having spent the morning wrestling with i-pods.
Having successfully managed to restore my shuffle, I decided to have another go at the nano, which was about "this far" from being stuck in the deep freeze overnight, due to its failure to co-operate over the last few months
Yaay!
I now have a choice of technology to take to the gym.

Other techo news from The Towers ...

Today, my brain-training thingie tells me I have a brain age of 27 smiley - biggrin
Not bad for an old bird.

Ah yes, the Oscars - The Golden Compass won the price for Best Visual Effects.

Only one Swede among the winners - Best Sound Editing (The Bourne Ultimatum) and no Finns.... ho hum...

* simulpost with Titania ...

It's hard to say how one would react to the murder of a loved one. Hopefully, none of us will ever be in such a situation.

Killing the perpetrator will not bring his/her victim back to life.

What does incense me about the legal system in the UK is that killing someone with your car, while under the influence of alcohol, is regarded as manslaughter and not murder.
I'd want a cutodial sentence AND a lifetime driving ban for that one.

I remember that when Milla (Alchemilla Digitalis) had problems with her nano (or if it was iPod, can't remember) she was strongly adviced *not* to put it into the freezer but instead to keep it somewhere warm (she stuck it into her bra) - and it helped!

That is exactly the fear that keeps me from drinking and driving - the mere thought of hitting someone. Couldn't care less about fines and trials, but just the thought that my drinking may have caused someone to be hurt or even die *shudder*

There's also been quite a lot of discussion and some tightening of sentences for cases where drivers have been driving recklessly - for instance two cars (inevitably driven by around 20 year old males...) racing each other in a city area. These are now prosecuted not as traffic violations but as murder or manslaughter (not quite sure from memory).

Perhaps years of experience playing video and pc games, where a crash means you merely lose some points or have to start again, has led to some youngsters having an unrealistic approach to their driving?

I heard that in some places, young drivers are not allowed to carry passengers after a certain time of night. Jolly good idea.

I do seem to have a bit of a chequered history with ipods, Ti. My very first one fell to bits after being repeatedly stuffed down the front of my sports bra at the gym smiley - laugh

Its replacement was treated to a nifty wee holder which can be strapped to an arm.

Not just anyone can attend an execution. Only close relatives of the victim and officials. Executions are rare enough to make national news; and they're getting rarer.

Every time the category for best short animations comes up I'm wild to see them all, all the way through. Same with short subjects and documentaries.

D leaves for 5 days this morning. I'm sort of beside myself...what the heck will I do with myself for 5 days? And why can't they be gone over the weekend, too? smiley - winkeye

I'm very happy with all the Oscar winners, especially the Coen brothers. They are my favorite filmmakers of all time.

Lil, you asked if I would specialize in tribal law. At this point I have no plans to, but to be fair, I don't really know any tribal law yet. I'm going to try to pick some up next week in Window Rock.

I'd rather specialize in environmental law, but I could always try my hand at tribal environmental law....

Ugh, I am sick of hollywood's constant stroking of the Coen brothers. I saw at least two other films I thought were better than No Country For Old Men. There Will Be Blood, and Charlie Wilson's War come immediately to mind.

Yes, I get it, they do violence and funny. But do we have to heap accolades on them anymore?

Congrats to Sol, and good luck to Irv.

The job is going well so far-training, and sometimes cursing the training system for being on a go slow. I'll be interested to see how the Irish turkey does-will the novelty allow him to overcome the mutual vote fests that now determine the result most of the time.

Just the thighs? Or are they attached to something?

Jellystone! One of the most beautiful places I've ever been... of course, last time I was there I spent most of it watching the tourists feed the moose. Stupid tourists.

> Is it true you can attend an execution in those US states that practise execution? Can ayone attend? And how common would you say this urge for revenge is?

Depends upon the area, I think. I've never been interested in seeing an execution, but if I or my family had been harmed by the person, I would be. I firmly believe that if we're going to have executions, they should be open and transparent so that everybody can see they're done right - but I have no interest in seeing that, myself!

> Sometimes you've just got to wait and see what a baby looks like to know what his name should be.

Yes, but what if he looks like an Eustace? Or a Mortimer? Or even, heaven forbid, a Terence? smiley - winkeye

Think those convicted of causing the death of another person while in control of a car under the influences of either illegal Drugs or Drink ought to be well punished, with both a long prison sentence and heavily fined and banned for driving for life...with no exceptions might get a few cars off the road as well as save a few lives. Given that its tantamount to premeditated murder the moment you turn the ignition on.

Now I'm controlled by electrical stimuli, know that would work better after being stuffed down a ports bra than in a freezer..

Have placed hard drives in the freezer to get them working again, they need to be inside a sealed bag preferably a non static bag other wise Ice crystals will form and wreck it permanently.

Not aware of any of the Oscar nominees let alone the winners, will wait till the films come on the google box before watching them, most cinemas are over priced and not that enjoyable to visit nowadays uncomfortable seats overpriced refreshments ect..
