What did it go for in the end?
Have had a truly depressing day trying to work out what I need to do to get cross trained on to another system here and avoid getting made redundant. I had such high hopes for this job! On the other hand, maybe I should just dawdle along, not doing anything new and just keep taking the money. Can worry about switching systems when this one finally dies *sigh* I should be able to hang on for long enough so that I'll be wanting to go off on maternity leave anyway (est. 3 years).
*heavy sigh* k

F won't eat anything hot. Just mention curry and he panics. Same with Mexican food. I have to make it blah and then season mine more.

I have a job interview for a localish job on Monday, and my CV has gone forward for a really local job too. Won't know anything about the Belgium one until next week. It may be an issue that I don't have a degree, but I have found a Masters I want to do, so hopefully that will help to make up for it. I am going to download the application forms today, and start getting my resume together for that.

I'm having a bad morning too. I woke up crying and haven't really stopped since. I'm back in one of my periods of clinical depression, triggered by a nasty incident last week. But I have an appointment with my doctor on Friday, so this time I can get help right away.

I was thinking about the analogy bettween cooking and medicine the art of medicine seems to be adapting the 'recipe' (guidelines) to the patients needs.
Kelli dear, of course what you do is entirely up to you, but compromising your promotion prospects because you'll soon be going on maternity leave is I'm sure disgusting from a feminist point of view, but of course you've got the perogative on what's feminist or not: being female.
Ben: good luck with the jobs, obviously I hope that you end up working locally because it would be nice to see more of you.
FG - a *massive* for you,

for FG.
If anyone is interested in a Yoga and Visualisation workshop in Oxford run by my friend Ulrike on the 5th September, (I think its a Saturday), let me know and I'll email the details. The yoga is gentle and the visualisation is also pretty gentle but can be surprisingly powerful.
I'll be there.

The clock sold for 501 dollah to a couple in Redmond. Tonight I will put up a big Royal Crown Derby Red Aves bowl that I have no idea why I ever kept when I moved here. Its departure will make much-needed room in my sideboard.
s to the depressed and wrong-footed. GDZ are you going to make a repair to your glasses?

Sorry to hear you're low FG
I believe Winston Churchill used to refer to depression as the 'black dog' - and it can certainly feel like a heavy old mutt sitting right on top of you!
I hope yours get chased back to its kennel PDQ.

As a matter of fact, Lil, I am getting off work early to go do just that. Have already informed the school and daycare that I will be picking up the monsters too.

I really do sympathise - I've been to see my counsellor today. I seem to be fighting that 'what is the ing point?' feeling on a daily basis at the moment.

Z, I must have phrased my last two posts really badly - my problem is nothing to do with promotion prospects or feminist principles! My problem is that I quit a job I disliked (due to all the travelling) two an a half months ago and joined my current employer in a specific role to upgrade and expand the system in which I am an expert.
This project has now been cancelled and it seems likely that the system will be decommissioned altogether which rather leaves me hanging. The company has had 8 rounds of redundancies recently and being an expert in a dead system is not likely to keep me off the next headcount reduction round, neither will being a newbie on a new system. Decommissioning is likely to take two to three years and will be boring as hell but will keep me relatively busy (and in a job). I need to think about what to do after that - I can start making aggressive moves now to get onto one of their other systems (with risk of getting the chop sooner), or I can save myself the politics and the headache and just hope that the decom work takes me up to the point where I would be taking a career break anyway.
I'm pretty p!ssed off about the whole thing and feel I've been recruited on a slightly false premise, but the money is good and I don't feel like going back into the contract market again.
I don't see how any of the choices I have identified so far are disgusting from a feminist perspective and actually feel rather insulted!
Fantastic news about the clock Lil!
More and and for those in need.

Thanks for the hugs and cuddles, everyone. I find it's best for me to be out of the house, buried in work or at least on the road going someplace to do something interesting. I've had periods of depression nearly my entire adult life. I have major issues involving betrayal and abandonment and whenever someone taps into those I totally break down and dredge up everything I've never dealt with in a hysterical crying jag. In this case, someone who I was in love with showed what he was really made of and broke my heart. I have no one but myself to blame. He was sending up red flags for months and rather than abandoning that gem of hope that things would work out for the best, I chose to be a fool and ignore them. Of course, if he had been honest from the start things would not have gotten to this point.
