I've eaten alligator, I really didn't like it- as stated above, a bit too much character. I had it in a Walkabout Aussie theme bar. I preferred the kangaroo.
Oh, and I think objections to breastfeeding are largely illogical, and fail to see how it can be interpreted as "offensive"

I used to be a bit embarrassed about seeing women breastfeeding in public, when I was a child. There again, the only time one saw it was on T.V.,in documentaries of Africa. I was a shy kid.Adults often used to embarrass me!
When I had my own I was determined to breastfeed.Don't be too hard on the Mums that don't,Amy P.
My baby was born Prem: at 28 weeks and 2 lbs 2oz(1kilo),with poor muscle tone and was tube- fed for 2 months. She was too weak to breastfeed,so I expressed milk for another 2 months, but had to resort to the bottle eventually. She'd take 300mls in an hour and need winding for another hour.It was easier to pour it into the cap of the bottle and empty it down her throat!
Dancing with her to Bob Marley got the wind up best!!

I *said* that feeding methods were up to the mom What I didn't say was that the same folks who asked us for money for formula have also asked us for cigarette money, and I didn't see them going smokeless that day or the day after.

A lot of people who ask others for spare change here seem to always have enough funds to purchase leather jackets, hair dye and lots of silver jewelry, so I assume they're doing just fine without my dollar bill.

Oh, hey, I've just figured out how the thumbnail images work in Flickr. Effectively they are "next" and "previous" links. Sorry if you thought I was moaning at you FG; I just couldn't understand why the site was so popular when it took me so much effort to move from one photo to the next. Now I know the reason - it's because I'm a numpty.
I think public breastfeeding would make me and turn away, though I certainly don't want to make women go to the toilets to do it. There are plenty of other things I don't particularly want to watch that get done in public.

I think the more women breastfeed in public the more acceptable it would be. I can see women not wanting to, or finding it difficult and things.

Mol - on the new tablet Posted Jul 9, 2007
When I was breastfeeding, it never crossed my mind that anybody would *mind* if they happened to notice what we were doing. I did feed Nod in private for the first few weeks, simply because we had to concentrate to get it right, but once we had the hang of it, we fed anywhere. When Osh was about 10 days old, we all went to the zoo, and I had to spend the first hour and a half or so there feeding him. So we sat on a patch of grass, and everybody that saw him said "Oh! What a *tiny* baby!". And then they looked again, and thought, "Hang on ... is he? Is she? - She is!" - and walked on. I could *see* the thought pass across their faces. But the point is, they had to actually *look*, not once, not twice, but *three times*, in order to be certain what was going on. So ... not a problem. I was flashing a lot more bosom in the pub on Friday night than anybody ever saw when I was breastfeeding and as far as I'm aware nobody was put off their dinner.
Interestingly, I think, it was only after having breastfed the children that I could see the *point* of breasts, and felt comfortable (what's the word?) ... emphasising them by the way I dress. Prior to being a mum, I wore baggy tops and hid them. Not any more
Anyway ... sorry ... bit carried away there.
We finally had a Guide cookout tonight where I didn't get soaked to the skin! all round!
Couldn't do the flowers. We also only have identification books for British Wild Flowers.

It certainly became more acceptable to me,as it was accepted as the norm and I got to adulthood.I'm glad there are'nt the "nursing Nazi's " now, Amy.You're right,it does help to be surrounded by people who are comfortable with nursing babies in public

I think I just had a date...

Hypatia Posted Jul 9, 2007
Just when I think my phone calls can't get any stranger, they do.
A woman came into the library with her son. The kid appeared to be about 8 or 9 years old. The woman was looking for "Christian Westerns" for her husband. Not the romance series set in the west....Louie L'Amour-like westerns but with a preacher as the main character. I'm not sure there is any such thing and told her so. So she asked if we have a restroom. I told her where it is and she headed off in that direction.
A few minutes later the phone rang. I normally don't answer the phone, but we were really busy and I picked it up. It was the woman. She was calling me from the restroom. She asked me if I would tell her son that she was in the restroom and that she hadn't left him here on his own. Then she said she was in there praying for guidance about what books to take home to her husband and she might be there for a while.
I suggested that she come out of the restroom and I'd help her pick out some books. I felt like I was talking someone down off a ledge. It seems like every nutter in the world finds my library?

Praying for guidance? About what books to take home? Erguuhhghh.
I would have been tempted to hide behind the door and exclaim in my deepest voice "God Proclaims That Thou Shalt Read Jitterbug Perfume."
A co-worker of mine announced that she had just taken a trip to Cozumel. To entertain herself while she reclined on the beach, she finished off the Left Behind series, and then read her Bible.

I don't believe anyone has ever called me from the restroom before. That was strange enough.
And was she reclining on the beach half naked like everyone else in Cozumel? Make that 90% naked.
That Left Behind series circulates a lot here. The trouble is that some people don't seem to realize that it's fiction. Of course I'm not sure the authors realize that either. I wonder if it will form part of someone's canon in a few thousand years?

Actually, my date was tall, and human.
I would have recommended Shane. At least it's a western...
