B4 - I chose the name Teuchter because I'm a quinie from the north-east of Scotland.
I spent more than 20 yrs in Glasgow, which is definitely lowland, and was regarded there as being a teuchter - or country cousin.
My Scots Dictionary gives the following definition:
teuchter n
- frequently disparaging or contemptuous term for a Highlander, especially a Gaelic-speaker, or for anyone from the North;
- an uncouth, countrified person

Well my date last night went well.
we met in the uiniversity's Wearmouth bar at about half six, and had a few drinks there- I was on coke due to my painkillers- while basically finding out about each other, you know all the ""well, about me" stuff that you have to get out fot he way.
I wasn't as nervoius as I normally am about making a good impression as I figured I could hardly amke a worse impression than first meeting her while lying on a pavement.
Anyway, so we had a good talk there, and, well, we were hitting it off. Then, as we were both rather hungry by about half eight, we headed down to a nice city centre italian restaurant for a meal, and during the course of the meal we continued talking, just finding stuff out about each other, and she's friendly, funny, intelligent and witty, in addition to being *very* cute.
Then I walked her home (home to her halls of residence, not home to Washington. that would have taken a *lot* longer), and we kissed goodnight.
A thoroughly satisfactory evening, and we arranged to meet for lunch tomorrow.
Also, she said that when she told her flatmate that she was going out ona date last night, her flatmate asked her who with. So she said, oh, some guy I met today. OOh, said her flatmate, how d'you meet him? Oh, he was sprawled on the pavement outside the subway by the murray library, she said.
Her flatmate thought she was crazy. She replied that life is about taking the occassional risk and doing things on the spur of the moement.
And she told me that she was glad she'd ignored her flatmate.

I was at a 99th Birthday Party yesterday. My husbands's aunt, the Birthday Girl, was in great form - and the rest of us felt very young for a change.

The cake turned out well . I have come to the conclusion that you can't cut fat or calories when trying to make a Victoria sponge, you have to use butter and caster sugar and to hell with the diet
The Cranberry and Rosemary loaf also turned out well, shame I haven't got any butter left to spread on a slice. Still, Olivio is proabaly more appropiate. We shall sample it later on.

Mmmm cake and special bread .
My neighbour in Glasgow used to make a fatless sponge - it was as light as a feather and quite delicious - but you can't beat a victoria sponge.
I'm possibly the world's worst baker. Mr T used to have to supply the scones for school coffee mornings as mine were horrible. And the birthday cakes when the children were small looked wonderful but were completely inedible. They just used to lick off the icing and leave the cake .
The best 'fun' cake for girls is to bake a sponge in a pyrex bowl. Remove from bowl and up-end. Take the legs off a Sindy or Barbie doll - or something similar - and stick her in the top of the cake. Then plaster butter icing all over the cake and up the front of the doll so she looks like a Crinoline Lady. Give the children assorted cake decorations and sweets with which to stick in the icing. By the time they've licked their fingers and eaten more than half the sweets they're extremely happy children - and the cake's a health hazard.
Sorry to hear about the windy weather Lil. Does that mean that there's a risk of the fire/s being fanned-up again?

Only 2 out of 6 in the alien quiz. ltp, I salute you .
This all reminds me, B4, you know that flashlight that one of your cow orkers dropped into the reactor? Would you mind very much giving it to GL or Affi to store in their weapons locker? I'll need it in about 42,000 years or so, but I won't know to tell you that until I get back from my most recent adventure .

High winds are indeed bad for the fire fighting; not only does it cause embers to fly into new areas but it endangers the people on the fire lines.

A very hot, dry start to summer here in the green swamp and we're very lucky no fires have started. The leaves on my orange trees are curled and dropping off from the intense heat.

Hello, all. Ben, congrats on the poem, Z, congrats on getting home, welcome Steve and my thanks/condolences/congrats on anything else I've missed.
Our power went out on Friday, just as I was going to bed. Gave me a bit of a start, really, but didn't think anything of it. It just came on an hour ago, so what, almost 48 hours later. Not exactly fun, let me tell you. No hot water, no stove...I hate electric stoves, did I mention that?
BUT I did manage to get up on time to make it to the Huntington Library and meet Robert I. Moore, who was fabulous and wonderful and gave me some suggestions for my work. It was lovely.
