Yet another day of allergies.

I am thinking of using gmail when it comes out assuming that the ads is uses are non pervasive. One gig of email storage sounds usefull to me and only makes sense. I may ditch my hotmail account completely if I like gmail.

For standard email (POP3 IMAP) I use Pegasus as pointed to by a salonista (sorry I forget who) a few years ago. Since going to Pegasus I have never gone back. Oddly enough, when you don't use M$LookOut you don't get many email bourne viri.

Oh dear *hug*

I use Opera's e mail client, because it means that I only need to have one programme running. The problem is that I can only configure it with my POP mail accounts to recieve mail and not to send it. Still that means that I think about things a bit more I suppose.

WooHoo! SciFi network is going to make a series out of Larry Niven's Ringworld books! I loved those books, and I can't wait to see the sereis.

We have our own mail server and domain name, but I use hotmail and yahoo for stuff that I reckon is going to generate loads of emails and spam.

smiley - eureka

I could use one of those for the luck project.

There is going to be a Farscape mini series, made in Aus, but ironically being shown by SciFi who cancelled it in the first place.

Mr Prophet posted the link on the smiley - drool thread. I'll go and get it smiley - run

Z, that's really weird. I can only configure my Opera mail to send. It doesn't want to receive anything at all. Maybe I'll have another crack at it one day.

Oh, and .nhs e-mail accounts are OK, but they are of course geared towards work usage. So you'll find that mail from non-work sounding addresses such as Hotmail and Yahoo may not get through. I guess it all depends upon your employer's IT policies.

One of my PC's speakers is playing up.

It's picking up the radio messages sent from a fire engine. I've just been listening to some fireman report back that there was no fire at some house, just food that had got over hot and burnt producing loads of smoke.

I don't know what distance this message has travelled. It can't be that local as I haven't heard a siren going off in the last half hour.

Weird smiley - weird

Have you got a wireless network, GD? Some of the emergency services are using them now. Just a thought, probably incorrect.

You're welcome, Sporky, Mr Prophet cheered me up no end with that news.

I dunno. Sci-Fi channel's gotten me angry a lot in the past. I don't know if I'd like to keep it. I mean, they cancel Farscape, they cancel Mystery Science Theater 3000, they cancel Exposure....these people don't know good shows.

And their definition of science fiction is appalingly broad. They have been known to show "The Flinstones: Viva Rock Vegas!" on occasion. A movie that has the Great Gazoo, and no other sci-fi elements to really consider.

I'm actively thinking about downgrading my cable subscription just to get rid of that network.

Backlog already? Oh dear...

I used to have (come to think of it, still have) a cassette player/radio/clock thingy that, if the power was on but not the radio, picked up the local cab company's transmissions - only one-sided (the switch board operator I think).

It was a bit fascinating to begin with but, since I was never able to hear the replies from the drivers, it got a bit boring after a while...

You know those alarm portals they have in boutiques? That'll start beeping if you try to steal something? My most recent walkman (and the previous one) give off a strong signal in the earphones(?) when I pass through them - but I never had that problem with my very first and by now ancient walkman, despite it having a built-in antenna in the earphone cord, and a radio cassette

That's the progress of technology for you.

Why else would I program Ampton with a tape deck?

That was your big opportunity to make a little extra money on the side, Titania. You could have intercepeted one of those taxi cab calls and shown up on the scene before the real driver. Of course, I'm assuming you had a car at the time....

I'm mad as well about SciFi's MST3K cancellation. Just when I get that channel back again they go and drop the show. Several years ago, when Mystery Science Theater 3000 was still on Comedy Central, I remember watching it one Saturday night and then channel surfing during one of the commercial breaks. There was the exact same crappy movie being aired on the SciFi Channel--for real. smiley - weird

Well, my very first walkman still works - I've been holding on to it, thinking it might turn into a valuable antiquity any day now... how much do you think people would be happy to pay for a walkman from... hmmmm... my parents bought it for my trip... 1982?

- It's made of metal, not plastic (and weighs a ton compared to newer models)
- It has sharp corners, not smooth
- So it comes with a padded case, complete with a shoulder strap and a belt loop
- It needs four instead of the usual two batteries to run
- You pop in this 'radio' cassette, and suddenly it turns into a radio (with the antenna built into the earphone cord, as I've already mentioned)

...and I've still got the original package and instructions

Any bids?smiley - tongueout

If you search for WF-50G you'll find my walkman - and a pop-up photo of the FM tuner pack...smiley - brave
