yeah, monopoly winning is like a magic trick. You really want to explain how, but then once you do you lose the edge. $171/trip, card cycling, trade timing...those were the good ole' days.
Speaking of peer review...I've got an article languishing there right now, been there for at least a month unpicked. I think I'll pop over there and give it a nudge towards the top.

Our library has the problem of being far too small. It was built in the 60s when both the town and Uni were smaller and both have out grown the library. There isn't a suitable site for a new one, so money was put in to taking the library to the villages and large trailers were bought which are taken overnight to the outlying areas and remain for the day before being moved to the next location. As we are closer ot the town we have a mobile library that turns up on a Monday morning.
I have to confess to not using the library in years. I suppose I should especially as ordering and renewing are online now, the two things that used to annoy me about having to do in during library hours.

Hyp, collection turnovers? Age of collection?
A library is the first place I visit when looking for a specific book that has been out of print for years - usually I'm lucky... but if Swedish libraries wouldn't be hanging on to those old books, I'd have to go haunting the second-hand bookshops - goodness knows how many I'd have to visit before finding what I'm looking for...

I doubt that many libraries would drop portions of their collection that were relevant to modern readers or one of the classics. But, for instance, turgid romance novels of the 1950s might be shown the door.

IMNSHO I think that all turgid romance novels from any decade could be shown the door. The furnace door.

The library up the road in the village of Capitan is spending all of its funds on increasing space and none on books -- it's depending entirely on donated books. This will make search results eclectic.
I think the old bodice rippers and gothicks should be kept, but filed under humor.
No scribe, no review, OK?

If nobody else volunteers in the next LED, I'll accept Z's offer cos Marv just did the last one. Everyone who has done the scribing has done an excellent job.

Ah, it's not an office of shame Hypatia. You get the nifty pewter penstand and plume for giving back to our little community.

Lil, I'd offer, but considering my research paper, I'm writing enough.
Sorry.
I'll do it soon, I promise. I thought FFTF mug winners were supposed to do it?!

Forgot to tell you about my dental appointment this afternoon. My dentist is systematically drilling out my old fillings and replacing. It's quite lucrative, I imagine.
Anyway, he did two teeth. One in my lower right jaw and one in my upper left jaw. I got back to the library and looked in the mirror. My face was actually frozen into a scowl. It was amazing. Looked like a cartoon character. I could never make a face like that under normal circumstances. So, I went to my desk and hid. A friend came in and noticed my staff giggling and pointing and came back to look at me. He only said one thing.....Hillbilly dentistry?
Well, I cracked up, he cracked up, the staff cracked up. I'm glad that I could be a source of amusement to so many.
I'm thawing out now, thank heavens.
