Feeling a little smiley - senior just now - left the bar at a conference where rounds were starting to flow, just a tad before kittee-time actually. To go to bed, no less. Geez... smiley - ermsmiley - winkeye

I'm only halfway through reviewing the current thread with a view to introducing the next. Sorry for the delay. Look for a new thread when your hostess wakes up tomorrow and has her Wheaties.

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring )

I have in my hands a 1966 vinyle LP called "A Season's Greetings.. from Nina and Frederik"
.
It was my favourite LP when I was growing up, owned by my parents of course, it is slushy, sentimental and great, all the great Christmas songs from them!

I must confess to a little it of smiley - envysmiley - smiley I know of them, certainly courtesy of my Dad - but even though (jeez, you have no idea of how many corrections I make to this due to Dutch wheat smiley - alesmiley - winkeye) I have gone back to the jazz I denounced "violently" in my teens, N&F have never made it back into my collection...

According to sleeve notes, Nina and Frederik were married and actually Baron and Baroness van Pallandt off stage!

Indeed. Still known by first name in DK. Which tells you something about a) Danes b) Artists c) Them. Or some mix... smiley - silly (I'd say 30%, 50%+ and ?? respectively)

20% dear. Go to bed now. Off with you. Shoo!

My students are either particularly bright or I'm particularly dull today. They managed to get past the whole issue of texts and agendas rather adroitly.

smiley - laugh You're right, I should get to bed, given that I was up at 4 this morning and it's now past midnight smiley - sleepy Could I make you believe that the ?? instead of 20% was deliberate? <grovel?

No...?

That's rather civilised... almost every hotel bed I have had the misfortune to sleep in had sheets made of cardboarded starch and blankets made of jute or sacking smiley - sadface

Never heard of a bed having duvets before smiley - envy

Sleep well, Santra smiley - silly dreams

Duvets (in hotels smiley - winkeye) are common in Scandinavia, mostly in Germany and - probably - Holland.

The most cherished one I ever had was in Austria (I'd guess, quite normal), arriving from Madrid with a bad stomach infection, barely making it through flight and airport and taxitrip without making a nuisance of myself. To sink into proper down-filled bliss... smiley - biggrin

And the most unexpected was Copthorne Harbour View hotel in Singapore! (hotel details courtesy of my travel diary - not ever to be generally published!*)

*It's in Danish anyway smiley - winkeye

Ooooh, now you've got our curiosity up, and that right proper! C'mon, be a sport and tell... You can't just drop little hints like that and walk away from the burning questions as if you'd not said anything. Tell you what. If you won't share it here, then copy it and fax it to one of us. Don't even bother to translate; that's easily done. Just share the experience and spread the glee.

SC, maybe a Barbie doll tied to a pole in front? With some drums in the background? [ooga-chaka, ooga-chaka...]

> She criticizes absolutely everything... My mother is selfish, cranky and outspoken and about as cuddly as a prickly pear.

Are you sure you didn't end up with my mom, Hyp? smiley - winkeye

I feel like a bad child, but I get the impression that there's no quantity of time I could spend that would make Mom less needy. I made the mistake of mentioning that I'd be driving down to Austin to put some masks up at Kerby Lane Cafe, so Mom starts planning the whole day as if I'm going to have TIME to visit. Argghhh... I had to say quite sternly that I wouldn't have more than an hour or two to visit, as I'd be driving back the same day. I'm not going to say anything about being back in Austin on February 28th, because the same thing will happen. Which makes me feel like a bad child. Again.

No rest for the wicked.

All this fancy sheets and houses talk... hah, you guys had it great. When I was a child they made me sleep in a pile of dirt out back with the pigs. They called me Pig-Girl and fed me slops, and I learned the secret language of the pigs. It took several long years before I stopped rooting in troughs and rolling in mud.

Morning all

*It can be seen that Ag has only one running shoe on, the other being in her hand, and is moving in vague circles. Eventually she bumps into a sofa and sinks down upon it. She attempts to put the second shoe on. It takes a long time*

Sorry about that. I'm not well either. I have taken the maximum allowable dose of smiley - moonsmiley - moon and can't eat, so am in a highly impracticable state of mind. It's my day off, and I am wasting it being ill. I can't even waste it buried happily in bed, as the electrician could be turning up any time between right now and 5pm to replace the stupid light fitting in the bedroom.

*Fishes a wad of paper from her pocket and stares at it vaguely* I had made notes as to all the things I wanted to comment on. Err...

Another person I am glad to see still around from the 70s is David Essex, I don't know if he is known in America, but he is someone who sang not dissimilar songs to David Cassidy. David Essex is a really nice bloke, he still has the curly hair and sparkly eyes that women seemed to like, he must be around 60 years old now and grey haired, but still sings on daytime shows in Uk sometimes and is still popular when interviewed. He seems to have kept his voice, which sadly some singers from that time seem not to.
