Sarah Palin seems like a genuinely nice person, so I don't think she'll have anything to do with Coulter.
Now the party flaks on the other hand...

I've been polling conservatives I know -- has anyone else noticed how many people are claiming to know all about Palin, that they'd swear didn't have her on their radar before Friday morning? I only know one person who I know for a fact actually had heard of her.
Is this like remembering past lives or something?

It's a by-product of the internet age, I think. If you're interested in politics, the moment you heard the announcement you went and looked her up. I'd been reading political blogs, and she was mentioned occasionally, so she was *on* my radar, but way off to one side.

I'm really liking this election. Inexperienced, minority idealist takes white Washington insider as running mate, while experienced white man takes inexperienced minority idealist as a running mate... How much more fun can you get?
I like Palin. A gutsy woman who isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in. That's more than you can say for Biden, who has publicly said twice that he doesn't think Obama would make a good president.

Idealist isn't the word I would have applied to either candidate. Obama seems pretty pragmatic and Palin seems ideological, not idealist.

However this turns out, history will be made this year. I just hope it goes the way I want it to, the way I feel the US needs it to go.

I guess I can say now that not only am I looking forward to the Obama-McCain debates, but the Biden-Palin ones. Both should be a lot of fun to watch.
I think Joe Biden has to be careful. Sure, he can eviscerate Palin with one flick of his claws during a debate. But he has to watch out: if she comes back all cute, spunky and smart, she'll get the sympathy vote just for putting up with the crooked old Washington insider.

Leo, those comments by Biden were from when Biden was still running against Obama. If asked about it today, Im sure he would say "what I mean was, I did not think he would make as good a President as *me*"

No Irv - in the same comment he essentially said that McCain was a more worthy candidate.
Ideological? If it's ideological to oppose graft, I suppose. You can use semantics to twist things around if you want, Lil. But pragmatic is one word I would not use for a candidate who rarely gives great details on how he intends to carry out his great plans.

In honor of the fact that we are now officially in presidential campaign mode, is everyone agreeable to the proposition that I start a third American Politics thread?

Now I don't want to rush you Lil, after all you've got something like 24 years to decide if you start a new one with each presidential election, but will these threads follow the decimal or hexadecimal numbering scheme?
