Well that was unexpected, I've just had my meeting with the course co-ordinator to discuss why I failed the psychiatry exam and he spent 20 mintues telling me that I'd done very well in the other exams and that I should consider psychiatry as a career.

He hinted that I'd only failed by one or two marks and that I'd misread several questions, and that he thought the amount of mis-readable questions would be looked at for the next exam. I've also got a lot of ideas of what to revise more of for next time.

That's uplifting I suppose.

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC

That makes it sound as if they have purposefully made the language confusing so that people who otherwise knew the answer would still get it wrong. Nasty business. It happens all the time if the people giving the exams believe that the grade distribution absolutely *must* be shaped like a standard bell curve.

Well as he put it, "we'll have to look at those questions next time, because it doesn't seem right that good candidates failed because of misreading questions.

I think the department that set the exam were under pressure from the medical school to have less grade A's this year, so as a result put a few confusing questions in.

So it was a deliberate ploy to be ambiguous in the exam! smiley - hug

My car has arrived at the dealers and as soon as my broker has returned from lunch, I can get the insurance organised, the car can be registered and taxed and I'll be able to pick it up on Saturday. WoooHooo!

That stinks, Z. But I'm glad he explained what happened. so you were right. You did know the material. smiley - hug

Are you giving the psychiatry suggestion any serious thought?

I need my morning coffee. Bad coffee is better than no coffee. If I could find a way to mainline it between 6 and 7 am, I would. smiley - erm I usually buy plain old Columbian coffee. Drink it black. In cold weather sometimes I'll flavor it after dinner for a treat. And I drink tea the rest of the day. I run on caffeine the way some folks run on tobacco or alcohol or whatever. Whenever I try to cut back I get terrible headaches.

Caerwyn, I'm not sure it was deliberate, I'm tempted to think that it was genuine mistake - they were under pressure to make a more difficult exam so that some students would fail. The course co-ordinator admitted that they will probably remove some of the "trick" questions from the next exam, and the resit. He also said the fact that I'd failed won't go on my reference so it's no reason why I shouldn't get a psychiarty job.

Hypatia, I've been considering psychiarty since I was 17 it's something that I'm naturally drawn towards, though I don't think I'd like to work within a pscyhiartic hospital most of the time, as they're fairly grim enviroments. I'd quite like to do liason psychiatry (patients in a general hosptial who have psychiatric problems), or perhaps child and adolesent psychiatry, but then again I'd also like to do sexual health medicine, or general practice - all shortage specialities, which is always useful.

I'm a bit of a caffine addict though one of my major problems in this weather is the fact that I can't drink coffee. I'm drinking coke and taking pro plus, instead.

I'm not sure why coffee gives me headaches, but I can't have the stuff. I don't particularly care for the taste either but, like MR, I love the smell of coffee. Caffeine has no effect on me- I am immune!

Coffee icecream and potato chips is one of my favorite desserts.

Caer, I must respectfully disagree regarding coffee. The average cup of joe in the US is crap. But there are many hundreds of fine places to obtain a good cup. For instance, the Salt Lake Roasting Company, roasts it's own beans right in downtown SLC. The proprietor is an excellent barrista and he makes many wonderfull roasts and blends.
New Orleans has turned a cup into a work of art.
Seattle has many coffee shops that know how to make a cup, and we should not let the fact that $tarbucks started there detract from teh rest of the good places.

I still think Starbucks US produces a weaker smiley - coffee than the UK. As for 'proper'smiley - coffee, having made only 2 trips to the US, I am sure there are better places for coffee than the chains. One day I shall make time to look out for them.

But get your passport, Marv and try a smiley - cappuccino sitting in a piazza in Italy, first thing in the morning (you are thought really smiley - weird if you have smiley - cappuccino at any other time of day) and tell I'm not wrong smiley - winkeye Although the sheer pleasure of being away on holiday may have something to do with it.

Speaking of New Orleans, has anyone had chicory in their coffee, and what does it taste like? Furthermore, what the heck *is* chicory?

As for the hand, I burnt it last friday whilst I away, so it's a lot better now.
At least I can see where my knuckles are which wasn't the case at the weekend.

Chicory is a root they grind up, I think. It's bitter and nasty tasting. They used it in the old days when they couldn't get coffee beans. When we lived on the Gulf coast it was common in the restaurants to serve coffee with chicory. smiley - yuk

Camp coffee is ideal for cooking. Dissolved instant coffee doesn't give as good a coffee flavour as good old Camp.

Well yes I suppose it's always useful to know where one's knuckles are. Hope it isn't too painful.

Doesn't mention the fact that I can do 20 wpm with my left hand, smiley - smiley

The thermometer outside, in the shade, has reached 33ÂșC!

Interesting reading about the call centre. I have received increasing calls on the Company line that show on the ID as international and have found it very hard to understand what is being said to me. The English may be perfect, but the accent very thick and the person on the other end seems to have difficulty in understanding me in return.

Somehow I don't think that that is any indicator of saving my job. Cisco have demanded that all outsourcers for TAC move their operations overseas. Not all of it goes to india, just my companies share.
