I don't know if the Chinese/railway thing holds up in the US simply because there isn't a passenger railway or subway system that connects the entire country. But I *do* think any town worth its soy sauce has at least one Chinese restaurant (Missoula has about nine). And if there's more than one, they all have a similar name...China Bowl, China Garden, China Buffet...

Ben, I think the poem could be either, actually. One of those things where we read in our personal experiences. Since I know you aren't a stalker, I wouldn't have thought it sinister. And it makes an interesting point about how simple actions and emotions can be skewered and darkened if the wrong person is involved.
We have many Chinese restaurants in the area, just no train station. The bad thing about Chinese restaurants in this area is that you're going to get pretty much the same menu at all of them. And FG, we have all three of the names you mentioned.
I can find ginger root and I grow my own coriander/cilantro.

Hypatia, are you absolutely sure Ben isn't a stalker?
Titania, I talked to my daughter about what happens to the wallpaper when we shut down our other computer. The wallpaper she selected (a Zoolander image) is actually stored on one of our other computers. It happens to be the last item in the list of available wallpaper. When she is not connected to our network, the wallpaper defaults to the next to last wallpaper file (pink flower). We see the pink flower display momentarily before connecting to the network and getting the Zoolander image. When shutting down, disconnecting from the network loses the Zoolander image, displays the pink flower for a moment and then shuts down.
So my advice to you is check your list of images under the Background tab in the Display Properties window and see if that 'face' is in there.

Witty, the kids don't volunteer parents. They send a sheet home a couple of weeks before and ask. I checked "have bongos" and that was all. I was planning on loaning my bongos, not me.
It was alright, although when I left, I put Metallica into the CD player in my car and blasted it. I can only take so much goody-goody stay-at-home mom crap. Several women told me it was "too bad" I wasn't more available. When I explained to them that I was in grad school, and that it can be very busy, they all looked at me as if I had grown two heads.

I have actually seen moms fight over who gets to be the 'head class mom'! And the jockeying that goes on over getting picked to attend field trips and class parties! *rolls eyes*.
I worked full time as a mortgage servicing manager and information services manager for the first 5 years of my older daughter's life. I retired and became a SAHM when the second kid came along. So I have full experience with the pros and cons of both styles of motherhood. What I can't understand is people that won't respect someone's choice that is different that their own.
But that is what is wrong with the whole world, isn't it?

According to this I am definitely a woman:

Although I didn't like the Canadian reference, but I suppose it is in the same vein as the Brit v France thing.

Yeah, true enough. I think if you have the money and desire to be a SAHM, more power to you. I personally would go off my rocker. So, I don't. But these women are so uppity!
They ordered cheese pizza for the kids, and when several said they wanted Hawaiian style (ham and pineapple) I saw it as an opportunity to teach a cultural lesson, and told him that some people don't eat ham, because it's against their religion or personal beliefs, but that most folk will eat cheese pizza. One mother told me I didn't know what I was talking about, that everyone at ham at Easter.
Which is when I said "I'm sorry, but I need to leave now." Sorry, but I *really* hate stupid people.

'Everyone eats ham at Easter'!!!
I think I've met her clones.
I like to think I'm a fairly tolerant person. But stupidity definitely gets to me, too.
I once suggested that school party activities be tied into whatever was going on in the curriculum in some way. I got that two-headed look, too. The reaction was: But, it's a PARTY. It should be FUN! Like modifying Pin the Tail on the Donkey to Name the Capital of the State You Just Pinned on the Map would be a crime.

BTW, Hypatia, if you have a Mustard Seed, Hong Kong Chef, Triple Dragon, Pagoda or Noodle Express things will get even eerier...

My favorite is our Hong Kong Chef, although the China Buffett has excellent dim sum.
Okay, this recipe for gravlax was in our local paper today.

I think it looks pretty good, and I have never tried it and I was hoping our resident chefs (especially Titania) can take a look at it and see if is worth making.

Hey, we've got a Golden Dragon here, too. The stupidest is Pick Up Stix.

There's a China Garden in Ruidoso, been there nearly 30 years.
The best I can remember, regarding names, was in a neighbourhood of Birmingham called Shirley. The restaurant was called the Shirley Temple. When Z gets back from France, he can tell us whether it's still there.
Everybody eats ham at Easter??? This was in Orange County?

My favourite chinese joint is called imperial garden, went there for lunch today. The worst asian place in SLC is called Teri Yaki. There are a lot of asian places in SLC from thai to chinese to korean to japanese to vietmanese. I like most of them, but when they are bad, they are very bad.
